OT: When you go to the polling place..

When your head tells you to vote for some certain guy, ask yourself,
just before you pull that lever, what does your heart tell you?

Thanks,
Rich

That the polling station is next door, and you've somehow ended up in
an amusement arcade. Then you go next door and make your cross on the
paper.

Listen up Rich. Your heart is the organ that pumps blood through your
body. It dont tell you nothing, except maybe that you've been having too
much sex, in which its too late.

Odds are, what your heart tells you is wrong. Try thinking now and
then; that usually works better. The biggest disasters in human
history were crimes of passion.

Exactly, A perfect example of the republican brain-substitute. I say:
"If you really don't believe that america hasn't operated without the
consent of the united nations," and the republican brain-substitute
catches the totally irrelevant part, which, of course, is the part
congruent with the party line.

How telling. Liberals always think from their heart which explains
their positions on every topic. I'll continue to use my brain as will
a majority next month. Do you use your heart in designing circuits
too?
Of course. What is it that makes you exclude heart from your dealings?

Thinking is *way* overrated - it is *emotion* that drives thinking in the
first place; i.e. you feel something then the Neocortex fires up and
attributes a reason for the feeling. With practice one learns to use those
feelings.

Of course it has to work like that:

When the woods goes quit, cro-magnon feels Fear; Fear mean Run; cro-magnons
thinking cousin stays a while to ponder the reason for the silence, causing
him to be behind his non-thinking cousin when the Tiger emerges .... thus
the cro-magnon that acts on emotions get back to the ladies in the camp and
on the way back he has though up a great story of epic battle to tell at the
fireplace ;-)

Thus evolution selects for stupidity. Given that, why should I trust
your theory?

Considering the performance of your brain - as exhibited here - you
might be better off using your heart. Your heart is at least doing the
job it was designed for.

Because the smart people are a vanishing minority. You, and the rest of
the Bush league, seem to be shining examples of the theory's validity.

And your heart isn't the part that says "RUN!" or "KILL!" - that's the
guts. True heart is the balance point. "RUN!" "Right away? Maybe I'll
learn something" "Well, keep your eyes and ears open. Be cautious",
and so on, and the individual learns something, grows, and evolves.

Of course, all the problems there are are caused by heartlessness, by
dismissing any sense of compassion or empathy for your victims, by
dehumanizing them, by any number of techniques to hypnotize yourself
into believing that right is wrong, good is bad, freedom is slavery,
and ignorance is strength.

The only two points that Mr Sloman makes are that

a) Sloman is smart

b) Everybody else is stupid.

and he makes them with numbing repetition. I wonder why.

If that's the sort of person you admire, well, I hope you and Fred and

Ah - So you think the tiger-burger is clever? Figures!
Nearly all (maybe all) human societies have valued bravery and honor,
and despised the cowards who cut and run. The chickens *don't* run
back to snuggle with the women, because the women won't have them,
either. The hero is the brave and clever one who brings back the tiger
as lunch meat. Humans have defeated every other species we have
tangled with, and we didn't do it by running away.

Sure, Trust in yourself, let nature take it's course!
I do, and I will.

You devalue your philosophical arguments by descending to partisan

You think with your small intestine?(;-)
No, you're not paying attention. I think with my head. I _feel_ with my
small intestine - actually, the whole gestalt popularly known as "guts."
As well as with the rest of my senses. Heart is the balance point, where
the synergy of Spirit and Will manifests Love.
OK, I agree you may not be able to think for long without it, unless you
are into intravenous feeding.
ha ha
True heart is the balance point. "RUN!" "Right away? Maybe I'll
learn something" "Well, keep your eyes and ears open. Be cautious", and
so on, and the individual learns something, grows, and evolves.

That's the job of the cerebral cortex.
No, the job of the cerebral cortex is to do planning, scheduling, analysis,
coordination (well, that's more cerebellum/medulla), all the scientific,
reasoning, logical, orthogonal, linear, mathematical, grammatical,
engineering kind of stuff.

And it operates on its inputs, which are your perceptions. Your
feeling-sense is simply more of those inputs, but the mind alone is
literally incapable of "understanding" what's felt, because the nature of
the processes are fundamentally different. That's why a synergy is needed,
for "consciousness," or self-awareness, or ego, or whatever.

And doing bad stuff hurts, but your mind has the power to blind itself
to that very very important input, because you can actually feel other
people's pain, and it hurts a lot. This is where compassion comes in.

The ones who are infected with the nazi meme are cold, heartless, unfeeling,
and so therefore, compassionless, and think nothing of killing and maiming,
since to them those other people are just targets. They have no qualms about
killing living beings, and this is why they need to be removed from Earth.

Of course, all the problems there are are caused by heartlessness, by

Well, I was talking more like remove the killer spirits, so they don't
