It's amazing what dinosaurs can evolve into.

I hope the dachunds are too big for him.

I was worried about the new puppy, but she's more than doubled in size
since Christmas.
Owl thought: "Yum! Weenie dogs!"

software that now comes with the digital cameras now does red-eye

No, I mean 'group'. The red-eye fix in PSP7 demands a great deal of
skill, ISTM. I wonder if I've not understood how to do it or if PSP8 has
a new and better method.

My camera has red-eye protection but it doesn't always work; it depends
on whether the pre-flash is the dominant illumination or not.

Red-eye has now been fixed, thanks to Kris Zaklika of the PSP usenet
group.

That's extremely good. How does one get to this PSP usenet group?

Yeah, I know (see URL). But Hedwig was always coming in bedraggled,
feathers ruffled, so the comparison seemed natural.

I'm not into US owls, but that's very like a European Short-Eared Owl.
Great Horned Owl, the widest ranging large owl in North America.

(Cool, we mostly get little Saw-whet Owls here. About the size of
two fists, but they make up for that with the racket they can make.)

A few years ago, during a dry spell, we had water rationing here. My
daily quota would have filled Jim's pool in about 13 months, ignoring
evaporation.

This is Arizona... about $30 of water will fill it ;-)

Water must be cheaper in the Foothils than it is at Red Mountain Ranch. I
have a 20,000 gallon pool that the previous owners had drained and
refilled not long before I bought the house. During the home inspection,
the previous owners showed me their water bills so I could get a feel.
The month when they'd drained and filled the pool had cost over $100,
while their normal bill was about $50.

Keep in mind that (at least in Mesa), your sewer charges are tied to your
water meter readings, so you're not just paying more for water--you're
also paying more for the use of the sewer that you may or may not have
actually used.

I've also been warned that backwashing the filter is discouraged because
dumping the water into the street is illegal and there's a neighbor down
the street who's more than happy to report you if you do.

Time to buy a filterload of diatomaceous earth at my house.

They are here too, but they're averaged, plus trash fees are fixed.

However, with a bill here in front of me I find my estimate was low,
20,000 gallons will cost me $61 including the ratio'd add-ons.

Backwashing into the street may or may not be illegal... depends on
the municipality... I used to flood Shea/66th St. until it was
impassable, but Scottsdale couldn't do anything about it back then :)
Here in the Foothills, being relatively new construction (11 years),
drainage areas are required, so I dumped the pool into the drainage
easement, flowing down the hill into a huge landscaped sump.

Before drainage districts I can remember simple rainstorms stopping
the world by flooding every roadway low spot.

Since it's empty, do some maintenance, calcium "bath tub ring" being

My camera has red-eye protection but it doesn't always work; it depends
on whether the pre-flash is the dominant illumination or not.
PSP8 is better, but PSP7 can also often give fast results with little
effort. To get you started (if necessary):

1. In PSP 7, with photo displayed.

2. Effects>Enhance Photo>Red-eye Removal

3. Select a correction method. Start with the obvious and easiest,
which should also be the default,
'Auto Human Eye'

4. Settings may be changed, but defaults are again a good start.
Here's what mine looks like at this stage:
http://www.terrypin.dial.pipex.com/Misc/RedEye1.gif

5. Use zoom to get appropriate view
http://www.terrypin.dial.pipex.com/Misc/RedEye2.gif

6. Now click Help and read the following next step:

7. "In the left preview box, select the first eye to correct:
If you are using the Auto Human Eye or the Auto Animal Eye method,
click anywhere inside the "red" area of the eye. This automatically
selects the eye. (You can also click and drag from the centre of the
red-eye area to its outside edge to select it.)

7. Follow remainder of instructions from Help. Often that very first
step is adequate to produce a reasonable result.
