Had an interesting week...

Another owl visited, not the same as last summer, different markings:

http://www.analog-innovations.com/Musings/Owl-030804-1.JPG

Micro-burst Thursday night tossed a glass topped table, umbrella and
chair into the swimming pool, the glass breaking when the table hit
bottom (the shimmering effect is NOT the water :)....

Nice paint job on the eyes.

That's red-eye flash-effect, I was shooting from about 20' away, from
climbing atop the outdoor fireplace, just after sunset, so the
original looked gray-scale. Paint Shop Pro did a pretty fair job of
pulling out a good image, but I couldn't get the red-eye fixed. I've
posted also to the PSP group for suggestions.

Change all the Al caps in the Micro, probably be OK.

Regards
Harry
.
My computers are all so old that the aluminum caps were made before
the recent fiasco. This box I'm typing on is only 400MHz, but with
512MB and Win2K... does pretty good for ordinary tasks. But the fans
are starting to die on my 1.6GHz AMD box... so I'll probably upgrade
that dude to around 3GHz.

Oh, who gives a hoot?!? ;-) We have the Cooper's hawk back again this
year in the oak tree on campus. He's up there squawking because mom and
dad won't feed him, making him get out of the nest and hustle up his own
food. He can be seen up there pulling apart a nice, juicy rat or mouse,
and wolfing it down. Mmmm, tasty!

Parts of the Phoenix metropolitan area are being over-run by so-called
"roof" rats. But, with my owl and my hawk, I haven't seen a one. And
the bats are out in profusion, so the insects are nil as well ;-)

Not really. Camera is Sony DSC-S70. But shots like this have me
coveting better lenses (which are available for the camera).

If you look at the "storm" shot you'll see the fireplace I climbed to
get closer to the owl. It was after sunset, so the resultant shot was
almost gray-scale, but Paint Shop Pro did a respectable job of
restoring color, brightness and contrast.

Fortunately this year's owl wasn't afraid of me... he just stared as I
climbed closer and closer. He didn't even flinch when the flash went
off. I took about a dozen shots and posted the only one that I've
processed so far with PSP (v8.1).

Last couple of years, we've had an invasion of San Francisco by huge
blue-black ravens. They squak a lot but don't seem to be a lot of
trouble otherwise. We also have red-tailed hawks circling our house,
looking for small pets I guess, and one famous flock of wild parrots
that live on Telegraph Hill. Lots of seagulls, but only close to the
beach; they are mean, nasty birds. Owls are very rare here. Birds seem
to adapt to cities pretty well.

They're tasty with Collard Greens.

We have a lot of pigeons, also known as "flying rats".

No. Real rats with a propensity to climb, like squirrels. They've
been occupying attics in many areas of town.

The doves are a pain-in-the-ass, building nests in my outdoor light
fixtures. Right now I walk around the house each evening with a lawn
blower and blow their day's work away ;-)

It's amazing what dinosaurs can evolve into.

I hope the dachunds are too big for him.
I was worried about the new puppy, but she's more than doubled in size

Group? You mean how do you fix red-eye in PSP, don't you? Most
software that now comes with the digital cameras now does red-eye
fixing. In fact, some cameras even have it right there, as you take the
