The problem is that attempted suicide without a gun is successful about 10% of the time, and with a gun about 90% of the time. Japan happens to have a rather odd culture when it come to suicide - it\'s a lot more socially acceptable there - and it would have even more deaths if it went in for higher levels of gun ownership.

The fact that Japan has a lot of suicides has absolutely nothing to do with my assertion that the gun you own is much more likely to kill you than anybody else. It\'s the same sort of observation as the one that female chemists were much more likely to die by suicide than the rest of the population - they attempted to kill themselves at much the same rate as everybody else, but had access to the kinds of chemicals that would kill them quickly and reliably.

Because they can\'t get a concealed carry license if they weren\'t law-abiding. If your selected group has to be law abiding before they can get selected into the group, their performance after the selection has taken place isn\'t all that informative.
