Calling a post as a whole stupid isn't all that useful - you really do need to pick out the particularly stupid bits, and tell the audience why you found the stupid. It's pretty much obligatory to repost enough of what you didn't like to let your post stand on its own.

In jurb's case it mostly means he doesn't know enough to understand what's actually being said, which isn't quite the same as being stupid.

All in all, it's a great city. I lived there for a few years *after* the
wall came down and there is something compelling about the place. I still
miss it terribly and go back to visit whenever I can. When I left the UK
I didn't give a FF about it despite having lived there most of my life so
why that should be different with Berlin I just don't know. An ex-
girlfriend of mine in the city accused me of being a spy, too, although
not a Russian one (she was Russian). However, I wasn't then, am not now
and never have been. So happy to have the chance to set the record
straight on that.

Anyway I also sometimes go to AP directly. I get the news they get but they don't get a chance to spin it. That is not the way to be really informed though, I check thongs for veracity, I want to see them NOT THE DUPLICATE articles and I want at least one from a dot org or even better a dot gov. I don't guarantee it but the odds are a bit better of it being somewhat true.

Forget the TV. The TV is only good for old TV shows. I goes in the livingroom and they are watching the cable and all these people have powers, shooting rays out of their stomach, eyes, fingers, who knows what else ? I don't have it wired to me. All I use the TV for is Star Trek, Have Gun Will Travel, Cheyenne, sometimes old Gunsmokes or Outer Limits' and whatever but it is all old enough not just to drink and drive, but to have a pension. I don't even tune in the news for the local weather anymore. I use the internet. Simple, temperature graph for the rest of the day, percent precipitation, humidity. I get it in about 20 mS whenever I want it. Sometimes in the summer I don't bother. I got a humidity gauge and a barometer, I almost don't need them at all. There is one problem though, in the winter when the furnace runs the humidity always reads 0%.

They could shut down all the TV stations and cable companies in the country today and it wouldn't bother me a bit. Actually same with the movie studios, theaters, Facebitch. Keep Twit though, help Trump blow off steam.

Don't get me wrong, I am not putting Bulgaria up for any comparisons
at all. I just happen to live here and can see what I see, some of it
was relevant to the topic.

The rail service is constantly in the news complaining of not being
able to survive, not sure how it works (have used it once last 25+
years, did the job).

The Internet I get over the cable tv here costs me <$20/month, 50Mbps
which actually is that most if not all of the time, including tv
channels and a landline phone (over IP via the cable again). Not
that bad I suppose; they keep on offering me higher speeds but I
decline as I don't really need even the speed I already have.

I must say though that the PM here - who is a populist allright - is
a lot less laughable than the guy the US have in the White house at
the moment.

Ideally, everybody benefits more or less equally, from things like roads, defense, universal education and piped water but it takes a fair amount of polical activity to stop the rich from creaming off most of the benefit (as they do in the US at the moment).

Pity about that. Government is the biggest protection racket in town, and the one thing you can rely on is that they will take your money. Modern political systems are rather better at spending at least some of it in ways that benefit every citizen than their more primitive predecessors, but taxes are quite as inevitable as death.

You've already got socialism - just nowhere near enough of it. Don't confuse it with communism - that depends on the leading role of one party. You've got two, which really isn't enough. Democratic socialism works appreciably better with proportional representation and enough parties that any government is a coalition of small parties, none of them big enough to have a majority in parliament.
