More context: There are about 20,000 homicides (all ways, not just
firearms) per year in the US, a bit less than highway deaths. There
are about 380 million firearms in the US (that we know of). If one
assumes one firearm per homicide, we see that at most 0.005% of
firearms are ever involved in a homicide.
