Used as a disparaging term for a person of color, especially a person
from northern Africa or western or southern Asia.
[Probably short for golliwog.]

"The wogs begin at Calais."

Who said that?
The French?

WOG = "Wanted Oriental Gentlemen".

An advertisement for cooly and other labouring workmen, ships sea cooks,
deck swabbers, boiler stokers, etc., placed outside the dock gates or at the
bottom of the gang-plank, during the Victorian era when British dreadnoughts
with sixteen inch guns ruled the World's five oceans.

Scores of thousands of wogs lost their lives at sea alongside British
merchant ship's officers and supervisors during WW1 and WW2. They were
unable to collect their paltry pay for their last fateful voyages to send to
their families. Cunard and the White Star Line, etc., shareholders kept it.
Their families received no pensions. It didn't occur to anybody to grant
them one.

Wogs should be remembered with respect.

Dream on. Who exactly is going to haul 'em up? The French??

Typical bully sub-mentality. "So what if you think I'm wrong?
Who's gonna stop me?"

I hate what the warmakers are doing to the US, which used to be
a pretty good idea, back when people had common sense.

Just because you can murder thousands more people than I can,
doesn't make you right.
Hey Rich, don't get me wrong. My comment didn't imply any partiality
towards the B/B axis although I can see how it could have been read
that way. No, I'm simply stating that there is no feasible means by
which either of them can be brought before a court over the matter -
that's all.

Absolutely, Reg.
However original meaning of the term has changed over time and is now
taken to mean, generally-speaking, pejorative slang for black people.

Back when he could, J.D. Rockefeller combined every oil-industry company he
could under the name Standard Oil. After anti-monopoly laws were passed,
the company was broken up into regional pieces. Several of them used the
brand name ESSO for a while (decades, if I remember correctly). Here is a

Jim Thompson will blame the French again.
British and American from top military officers down to soldiers
are behaving like wogs in IRAK.

_Wogs_?

wog n. Chiefly British Offensive Slang
You do seem prone to offensive language.

Used as a disparaging term for a person of color, especially a person
from northern Africa or western or southern Asia.
[Probably short for golliwog.]
Yes, I know, thanks just the same.

This is an _English_ speaking forum, not an american one.
"English" has been replaced by "American" as the world's Lingua Franca
whether you like it or not. Oh, BTW, do you expect success getting English to be
the Official Language of the E.U.? France will agree quietly, right?

BUSH BLAIR SADDAM AND BIN LADIN ARE TERRORISTS AND WAR CRIMINALS.
BUSH and BLAIR have violated the GENEVA CONVENTION.
USA AND UK are no longer civilised countries.

You spell like a Brit.

This is an _English_ speaking forum, not an american one.
You do not get to decide that.

Yankees go home !
yankee n.

1. A native or inhabitant of New England.

<I don't live there.>

2. A native or inhabitant of a northern U.S. state, especially a Union
soldier during the Civil War.

<I'm not that old.>

3. A native or inhabitant of the United States.

<I _am_ at home.>

[Probably from Dutch Janke, nickname of Jan, John.]

Word History: The origin of Yankee has been the subject of much debate, but
the most likely source is the Dutch name Janke, meaning “little Jan” or “little
John,” a nickname that dates back to the 1680s. Perhaps because it was used as
the name of pirates, the name Yankee came to be used as a term of contempt. It
was used this way in the 1750s by General James Wolfe, the British general who
secured British domination of North America by defeating the French at Quebec.
The name may have been applied to New Englanders as an extension of an original
use referring to Dutch settlers living along the Hudson River. Whatever the
reason, Yankee is first recorded in 1765 as a name for an inhabitant of New
England. The first recorded use of the term by the British to refer to Americans
in general appears in the 1780s, in a letter by Lord Horatio Nelson, no less.
Around the same time it began to be abbreviated to Yank. During the American
Revolution, American soldiers adopted this term of derision as a term of
national pride. The derisive use nonetheless remained alive and even intensified
in the South during the Civil War, when it referred not to all Americans but to
those loyal to the Union. Now the term carries less emotion except of course for
baseball fans.

Your failure to keep us subjugated was the first crack in your Empire. Get
over it. Oh, and fuck off.
