Unfortunately Seb there are people out there who are dumb, or if not dumb,
just plain gullible. For example I've been telling someone for weeks now
that they had a virus on their machine, and they wouldn't believe till they
got their phone bill last week, which was Ł600 for the quarter, and sure
enough their machine had been dialling out a premium based number.

When I checked the machine, it actually had 9 separate viruses on it, and 4
diallers, which were luckily conflicting with one another. Their anti virus
software was 5 years out of date, and they said "Oh I thought AOL stopped
the viruses coming on!"

Now I realise she is an extreme case, but their are a lot of people out
there with no knowledge whatsoever of computers, they even have to take
their machines to a technician to load a new programme on it for them.

It must be aol users are just generally moronic. : I have a friend who uses
aol and who won't let me near her PC because she knows I'll install
antivirus on it. : She sys she has no need for extra programs which she
can't understand, as she keeps telling Microsoft each time she installs the
latest update which they send her by email!!!

No- the entire post is quoted above. The thread consisted of
the first weak question -followed by two deservingly superficial responses,
and that was the end of it.

Here in sed? And what's that group 'alt.electronics'?
I have no idea- S.E.D. is the "least bad" of electronics discussion
groups and it only goes down hill from there- more like off a cliff.

Thanks to all for your help.
I found that a 74ls74 jk flip flop dose the job for My needs.
I just tied the inputs and the reset high and use a debounced push button
dost the trick.

To prevent thermal runaway -

In place of R5 try a low-power npn transistor like a BC109 with collector
coupled back to its own base via a slider on a 1K-ohm preset potentiometer.
Thermally couple this transistor to the output transistors if possible.

1.4 volts between collector and emitter. 0.6 volts between base and emitter
as set by the 1K preset pot.

Looks from here like the circuit is already pretty well designed.

Thermal runaway is avoided by adding appropriate heat sinks. Simple.
The resistor values are a calculation that I'm sure your teacher wants YOU
to do, and you haven't provided enough information in your post for us to do
it for you anyway.
We'd need to know stuff like what the gain of each stage should be (we
already know the gain of the last stage is 1...), whether the first two
stages use matched pairs in a single package or discreet components, etc...

Really, if your teacher didn't think you had the necessary tools (math) to
do this, he wouldn't have assigned it.

"pil" <pil@webmail.co.za> wrote in message
news:mb6dnYoyrZy4DzPdRVn-sA@is.co.za...
The voltage rails are +/- 15V and the load is 100ohm.

Max output voltage swing must be 2/3 of Vcc

R5 must be used to set the quiescent current in the output stage to 1mA.

R2 must be a pot the next size up from the calculated value. It must be
used
to set the zero offset of the output with both inputs grounded

I also need suggestions on how to prevent thermal runaway. The circuit
that
I built keeps heating up.

Any help on designing this circuit is appreaciated

Actually, their components have a reputation for being terrible
busybodies....
