I am looking to build a motion sensor.

https://www.jameco.com/z/VMA314-Velleman-Passive-Infrared-PIR-Sensor_2245440.html

I know it needs 5 V dc input.

What else would I need?

Thanks,
Andy

Harbor Freight driveway motion sensor and receiver now on sale for about
$10.00. Item # 93068

Use it or modify it or rip apart ???

Can get several different channel frequencies.

I have several and they work great.
Had for 5 years.

The device has an output that goes from 3 volts to 0 volts. You need
whatever it takes to do what you want that will work with a signal of 3
to 0 volts at almost no current. Just as a detector, you hook up a
voltmeter from the 3 volt output to the ground terminal.

If you want to use the Arduino, they make one called a pro mini that can
be bought for about $ 3 or less off ebay. I just got in a couple the
other day and am just getting started playing with them. For about $ 20
you can get a kit with the UNO and several sensers to play with.

They even have some ultasonic sensors that work with the Arduino units.

You can use the output of the module to drive a transistor that would
control a relay or buzzer etc cheaper than the Arduino. On the other
hand if you went for the Arduino you could also do many other things
like temperature control, humidity etc etc. ( Look up the Arduino
playground for more info ).
