microphone impedance vs. speaker impedance

Bruno

Hi,

If I measure the DC resistance of a hi-fi speaker with an impedance of 8
ohms, it comes out at approx. 8 ohms.
But when I measure the DC resistance of a dynamic microphone with a
stated impedance of 50k ohms, it comes out as only 1500 ohms. Another
dynamic mic with a stated impedance of 400 ohms reads only 1.1 ohms DC
resistance.
Why do mics DC resistance seem to measure differently from speakers?

** There is a transformer inside, all 50kohms mics are low Z capsules with a transformer.

resistance.

** Really ?

You just making stuff up ?

Or was there a on/off switch stuck in the off position.

BTW:

Quoting mysterious ( with no details ) examples only you know about is fucking stupid.

I'm most awfully sorry. The hi-z mic I referred to is the factory
supplied one from a Yaesu shortwave transciever and the low-z one is a
Uher (once used typically by news organisations' reporters with their Uher
portable tape recorders)

I'll have to add a sig line to my posts, it seems: "Persons suffering

You are expecting information about the internal details specific model mics and cannot identify them.

FFS - YOU have the two oddball mics !!!

OPEN the damn things a take a look.

Bet you will find a transformer in the first and an inductor in the other.

Looking through your posting history here and elsewhere indicates a
strong likelihood of antisocial personality disorder coupled with
Asperger's syndrome co-morbidity.
To put it simply in layman's language, you're an asshole - and likely to
remain one throughout your life.

We try not to pick on Phil directly, just notice his disorder and use
the facts out when he presents them.
He's probably right with the technical facts he has given.

I'm sure you mean well, but that kind of approach is now regarded as
unhelpful and outdated. Today's methodology centres around challenging
the patient about their behaviour as opposed to ignoring it or humouring
them. I would typically have someone like Mr. Allison turn up at my praxis
in Hannover presenting with symptoms like this on average two to three
times a week in the year before I retired. There seems to be an epidemic
of it over the last two decades or so. There are all sorts of wild
conspiracy theories surrounding the possible causes from mercury in
dental fillings to flouride in the water supply to contaminated flu &
measles shots. But I don't think anyone understands the aetiology of
autism for sure. :-/

** Bruno is a monstrous narcissist who imagines Usenet is part of the real world, when it absolutely is not.

He old fool is so unreasoning, his thinking is like that blind man who, upon grabbing hold of an elephant's tail, announced: "Ahhh - an elephant is just like a snake !!".

Bruno boasts he has a "praxis" - but in what ? Like with his dumb microphone Q, he carefully secrets the detail.

Could it be in Scientology ?

Those scumbags have long preyed on the gullible autistics to spread their evil cult all over the world.

All one can say for sure, it that Bruno is yet another self-important, tedious, full of bullshit usenet troll.

Piss off Bruno.

Riiighhhtt. Except that you aren't Phil's doctor, and you're doing it
in public and not in a clinical setting.

You exhibit some signs of narcissistic disorder yourself. (In
normal-person language, that means "it ain't all about you, bub.")

** A little Googling reveals that Uher mics used with their Reporter tape machines often had a Music/Speech switch that placed an inductor across the signal wires.

A well made ferrite pot core inductor of say 400mH may have a DC resistance of 1ohm.

Such would roll off low frequencies at -6dB per octave rate from about 150Hz.

Whatever. I posted a perfectly reasonable question in a civil manner and
it was met by instant unwarranted abuse from PA., so AFAIC, he invited an
informal, snap diagnosis which I was happy to give. I don't owe him any
duty of confidentiality since he's not my patient as you correctly point
out.
Now having come away from this discussion with nothing but wasted time to
show for it I'll be on my way. I've got better things to do elsewhere so
this will be the last you'll hear from me.

That's right Phil, we can all read the exchange, nothing in it to go
bonkers over. If you wanted to help and thought you might need more
info, you might have said something like. What brand of mics do you
have? Can you make sure the switch is on.
You have responsibility for the response you make. When you respond
like a person that is in need of mental help, you may get an offer for
that help. If being a poster/lurker/informant on Usenet upsets you, go
to the beach.
