MC6821

Hello,

I found a few MC6821 and would like to do something with them. I found some
MC68HCxxxx microcontrollers on http://www.freescale.com, but can't find the
MC6821 there.
Can anyone tell me where to look for the datasheets?

If I want to do something with them, I will need a programmer. Does anyone
know of a pretty simple programmer which makes it possible to program the
microcontroller via the parallel/serial/usb-port of a pc? Which software to
use?

Thanks in advance,

The MC6821 is a parallel interface chip. It has to be programed but when
the power
goes away so does the program.

Good luck

The MC6821 is a parallel interface adaptor commonly used with Motorola
6800 and 6809 processors. It is not a microprocessor or
microcontroller by itself.

Any programming it needs (more correctly, configuration) is done by
the program running in the associated processor.

Why not try www.goggle.com ???????

First link on search for mc6821 is:

Plenty of good info & data sheets available for this PIA

I didn't find a datasheet a complete datasheet on the motorola site. I just
found parts of datasheets everywhere (e.g. from page 245-259)

Hi all
What you need to use the PIA is in the datasheet pointed by the given link
Your document, "from page 245-259" is a part of the 6800 family databook, in
which the MC6821 is described from page 245-259.

I think the 6821 is an I/O chip, not an microcontroller...

There are other chips in that series, such as the MC6845 video
controller (and of course the 6800 processor itself), so what you found
was probably all of the pages for the 6821.

Good luck finding a "programmer" for the MC6821. It doesn't contain
any memory, unless you count a few dozen bits of registers. It's
just a parallel interface adapter (PIA), almost identical to the
MC6820, MC6822, and MCS6520.

That means that in fact, the program is the one of the microprocessor (6800), of
which 6821 is a peripheral
