Looking for help to ID 2 Motorola parts

HI, I am looking to id a couple of Motorola parts that are in my Halcyon
Waterbed Heater Control.

The first is AML33B, with a date code of 8416, which I believe to be a
triac.

The second is 66A001, with a date code of L8425. This is a 14 pin DIP
chip that is used to cycle the triac.

My major concern is the triac, as it shows sign of pending failure. It
was not properly tightened to the heat sink and shows signs of excessive
heating. There is also a 10K power resistor located nearby that has been
getting very warm as well. The PCB area around these 2 devices is
blackened, but not yet damaged beyond use.

Any useful info is appreciated.

The AML33B part I cannot get a handle on. If you replace the TRIAC get one
that has 4 quadrant triggering.

That chip looks like the right part. The schematic on page 12 of it's

spec sheet is almost identical to what I see inside the control box. I
would have liked to replace that triac, but without knowing for sure
which one to put in, perhaps I'll just reseat it with new compound and
hope for the best.

All I have for triacs are;

SC146E (10A) 2 quad I think
TIC246D (16A) 3 Quad
ON MAC228, which may be an A series which would be 4 quad, but I am not
sure. I have posted a pic of it here;

Maybe someone who knows better than I can verify that it is indeed a 4
quad version.

The MAC228A6 is a 400 volt 8A 4 quadrant triac. Should work.
The TIC246D is a 400 volt 15A 4 quadrant triac. Should work.

The MAC228A6 is a 400 volt 8A 4 quadrant triac. Should work.
The TIC246D is a 400 volt 15A 4 quadrant triac. Should work.

I'll tag that triac and save it until I take the control apart again.

My TIC246 is an E version, so it's not a 4 quad, just a 3, as spec'd in
it's datasheet;

l High Current Triacs
l 16 A RMS
l Glass Passivated Wafer
l 400 V to 800 V Off-State Voltage
l 125 A Peak Current
l Max IGT of 50 mA (Quadrants 1 - 3)

If you check the datasheet archive and search for a TIC246E, it seems to
find the D series instead. If you do a 2nd search with the same
criteria, it will come back with the E series. Must be a bug in the
search engine.
