LED to Sound...

Hello folks,

I have a Telephone Caller ID unit with a Light Emitting Diode (LED) that
flashes when someone calls me whose number is stored in the telephone
directory of the ID unit.

Is there a Very easy way I could solder something up so that as well as or
instead of the LED flashes that it rings some kind of loud piezo
loudspeaker or buzzer or bell so I could get sound as well?

Anyone know what I would need. The voltage going to the LED would be so tiny
wouldn't it so I would really have to bump up that voltage to make a buzzer
sound wouldn't I?

How about a photodiode or photocell sensing the LED instead of actually
tying into the circuit. Shielded photocell, to switching transistor to
relay=easiest way.

It's possible to get 10mA Piezo sounders (just make sure you get one with
built in oscillator/drive). Just connect in place of the LED.

You could use the phone line its self. I think the line voltage will change
when the phone rings and will change again when the phone is off the hook?
Just a thought. Might not be to easy though.

Not recommended, the regulations on telephone equipment are quite
specific.

However, using a tuned photosensor may be the way to go. You can use
LEDs as sensors (for example, a water-clear red LED will sense
yellow/green light, etc).
