I vaguely recall this incident and wanted to look it up. There
seem to be so many shootings in Lemon Grove that this incident
faded into the Google background.

I seem to recall though that the guy did a lot worse than just
driving an obnoxious car. The guy who killed him was being
prosecuted the last time I read about this.

Oh the asshole was an asshole in the hood there for a long time and
using his car. The shooter did get convicted. But only of the
lesser Manslaughter. He was a former Navy Commander.

It was actually Spring Valley.

The population adore him and his family as a near god. His sister has been significant in politics lately. Whoever assumes power (assuming he does die or become incapacitated) will do so through political maneuvering. The leaders seem to have no threat at all from the military. It's the other leaders they all worry about.

The guy does present problems for the rest of the world, but I think the only country that might be willing to take the risk of eliminating him is China. For everyone else the uncertainty of a North Korea without a leader or with a new, unknown leader is worse than the devil they know.

I think China would have a lot more say in who would replace him... especially if it was known by the powers that be (in NK) that China had taken him out. Who in NK might stand up to China on anything significant? I think no one, not even Kim himself when it comes down to it. Without China, NK could be taken out at any time and likely would have been a long time ago, like in the 50's.
