Why is this such a boy's club? Whenever anybody is suspected of being
female, there's always a line of guys forming to harass and insult
her.

My apologies... my feeble mind presumed a female pretender :-( I have
no female bias... I have two daughters whose competency I respect very
much.

That's forgivable. If I were you I'd consider a post, or a private
email to "Julie" to apologize.

Good day!

Oh, sorry -- thought this was a reference to Loebe Julie (pioneer of the
modern op amp, in the 1940s, and other things besides); a familiar name to
high-resolution analog(ue) instrumentation designers for many decades now.

This IMO is what a *real* man does when confronted with evidence of a
transgression/mistake/brain fart (which we all do from time to time).

Thanks Jim

Cheers

What ever happened to Julie Laboratories? The last time I used a piece
of their gear, it was a gorgeous Kelvin-Varley ultra-precision voltage
source. It arrived a couple of months late, because they wouldn't ship
it until they were satisfied that the drift and everything were
perfect.

Yeah. I don't know why some folks get so upset with Jim. He's a
cantankerous old fart sometimes, but I generally get the feeling that
he's decent fellow. Even if I don't like some of his politics.

Sold some years ago by Julie cordially, I gather, to Process Instruments,
412-431-4600. (I talked to them in February.) There is also a Web site.

Decades ago Jim Roberge would tell his MIT grad students about orders for
the most stable resistors in existence, sending Julie to his inner sanctum
to wind them from special mysterious alloys, using obscure and mystical
processes. Alchemy thrives! :)

Having two daughters is indeed forgivable, is that what you
wanted to say? If anyone is to accept this apology it is "Julie"
and not you.

To come full circle.

What does this have to do with electronics and why is there no [OT] in the
heading.

It *was* on topic. The bucket was doped up.

That's just what I figured out eventually. A bit rough around the edges, but
his heart is at the right place.

OK, let me put to you a (purely hypothetical!) question:

If it were shown by some ojective measure that I was, say, twenty
times better a circuit designer than you are, whould you then prefer
me to be a boy or a girl?

John

or Joan

whatever.

Exactly so. Why hate people because of race or gender when there
are so many *good* reasons to have them?
