I am sending you all this posting in thanks for the help in my not so good
transister theory. I have built the supply and it is now under test.

You can see the final schmatic here;

The Q2 in this curcuit is only disapating about .750 watts and is not even
heating at this point. I have discharged my test battery's (2 X 12.6 5AHR in
paralellel) to see max current flow with R2 at 39ohms/10W. The matel tab
that is inside my case is not even showing signs of heat. It is only showing
a slight higher temp the air temp. I could use 2N6284 Power darlington and
eliminate Q2.

It got very complicated... It's still charging the batteries and the ouput
is 5.09v Q1 is warm now but extremely hot. Emitter voltage is 14.26V

It's working all to well the batteries are at 13.58V current is ..03A and
