HAL's hardware wasn't evil, it was his software, and if you
want to design evil software the best place in the world
to do it is Redmond Washington.

"I'm sorry, Dave, but you'll have to re-install Windows before I
can let you back in..."

Even HAL wasn't evil/corrupted/screwed-up enough to demand that!
ROFLMAO!!!!!

Kinda gives "blue screen of death" a whole new meaning dunnit. :)

OMG, Hal? Well lets see if that could really be a start. OOPS, the
cryo sleepers are definately out. Definately cant run winslows as
it has to be rebooted too much. Linux is ok, but no standard yet.
Comercial S/W would be too expensive. Hey, I know, lets use my old
Comodore 64 with a copy of Zilch! basic 1.2 on it. Ah, now there
we go. And I didn't need 2 gigs of ram to make it run either.

Didn't some guy in North Carolina network a zillion Macintosh
G5's together and make one of the fastest supercomputers in the
world for around a million bucks? That certainly has to have
more horse power than HAL had. The software would be the tricky
part. The last one went insane.

Nope. Kubrick's advisors were wildly optomistic. We are not even close to HAL
(in 2004), let alone what you want.

Because many of us (those with the funding) do not understand the problem. It
is not possible to solve a problem you don't understand. The "problem" is":
What is consciousness? Clearly, nobody in academe has a clue.

My theory? It is MUCH simpler than they suspect. The religious fanatics have
it about half-right. But with the wrong first principle: You fill in the rest.

I heard they were selling that super-computer made of Macs off peice by
peice on E-bay
