gold capacitors contain no gold

Hi sec!

I thought gold caps achieved their remarkable capacity through the
use of thin gold foil but it turned out they rather use activated
charcoal with electrolyte. Why are they called gold caps then? Are
there capacitors utilizing gold foil?

First I thought the long run of gold foil was responsible for the
high internal resistance and thought they could make a connection
every few turns.

If you want gold in your caps (or any other resistive foil more expensive
than aluminum), you'll have to check out Audiophool products. $20 for a
0.22uF film cap, anyone? Hand wound so you *know* it's solid!
