Then just exactly how do you think the transmitter got
power in those old phones?

OLD (and no longer used) is all you seem to know about.

You falsely claimed it was otherwise. Seems *you* are
the one with a lack of "know" about this topic.

What ?

Look, I've designed line interfaces FFS. For Xerox. I've already
mentioned it once.
You can say anything you like, but when you make up all
the ridiculous garbage you are posting to this thread
there is little doubt that you haven't got even the
faintest clue how telecommuncations equipment works.

Damn right ! Not ONE of these 'phone experts' has mentioned that.
BS. I had previously discussed it in detail.

I can assure you it ain't as simple as you suspect to get a hum free and
distortion free result.

BS. It is *very* simple. Every simple (or complex)
telephone for a hundred years or so has been doing the
exact same thing!

** Totally wrong comparison to the interfacing issue here.

FUCKWIT !!

It has worked for roughly 100 years,

** Wrong context - you FUCKWIT IMBECILE

PC sound cards and small recorders are not 100 years old !!

YOU FUCKING ASININE LYING IDIOT !!!

** The "level" control generally often comes post the AGC circuit -

YOU ASININE BULSHITTING FUCKWIT !!

There is no "level control". I said, "to set
levels"... which is done by various means, such as
designing the right loss into pads, etc.

** Funny how exactly that was in the next para of my post.

YOU FUCKING ASININE LYING IDIOT !!!

Why not use a properly designed pad, with the correct
impedance?

** Cos that will NOT have the required CMMR to eliminate all trace of
hum
NOR be safe to use.

You LYING FUCKWIT !

You have that backwards. If you use a properly designed
pad with the correct impedance it will maximized common
mode rejection of induced currents.

** That will *NOT* have the required CMMR to eliminate all trace of hum
NOR be safe to use.

YOU FUCKING ASININE LYING IDIOT !!!

He can only utilise it if it contains one OBVIOUSLY !

That was not the argument, you retarded non-human dumbfuck.

The word is UTILIZE.

Not in the civilised world.

It is like this, you retarded twit.

"civil-ice" is the way your spelling has it pronounced, and we ALL know
it does not get pronounced that way.

civil-eyes is the way it is pronounced EVERYWHERE, and THAT spelling is
IZE. If your logic was not so tragically flawed, you would see that
simple premise, dipshit.

I note that you stupid fucks are not spelling citizen as "citisen".

Using your logic, you are at fault there.

Make up your fucking minds, you pompous dumbfucks. We do not use thees
and thous anymore either. Get a clue.

You still running Windows 3.11 too, you clueless fuck?

Damned shame that they are more interested in your money than

Note how the PhilTard resorts to this abuse when he has his inane
remarks refuted by someone.

Is there anyone on the net that you haven't called some lame, PhilTard
name? I doubt it. You are wrong so often that you likely cuss EVERYONE.

You might be a contender for Roy's top spot on the retard list.

It's true that isolation is not important for a well-insulated telephone.

A 10kV arc from a 2MV lightning strike *COULD* make it all the way into
the handset, and OUT of the perforations in the handset, through the
earpiece or mouthpiece, and hit the user. The microphone and the
earpiece transducer both use metal cans, making the distance to the user
a mere 1/4" through air. Not good.

This is ONE of the many reasons that isolation elements are
incorporated at VARIOUS locations in the system. One of which is at the
CABLE connection to the phone itself, which is why isolation elements can
be found at these positions. This is a standard element of device design
where human contact is present, and has nothing to do with it being in a
plastic case. It isn't your Dad's AC fed two wire drill motor with an
un-phased power cord and metal case. It is, however, in close
(electrical) proximity (potentially) with lightning events, and that is
why arresting elements have been incorporated.

Most incorporations are overkill, as it were, but I am happy that our
scientists and engineers of decades past were concerned about such
things.

Idiots today seem to think everything is low voltage and harmless.
Ummmm....

A standard UK BT NTTP socket as used for the UK POTS would have a gas
tube arrestor -across- the line. IIRC there is a centre tapped point
which might be earthed, but in most all cases won't be;-(..

So several miles of OHL and just that and an -out of service- resistor
doesn't seem like much effective protection to what nature can
deliver....

This is true - someone (not sure who, sorry) commented earlier that this
doesn't matter because the speed of light is so high, and that's true for
local calls but not for long distance ones.

Which go via optical fibre or microwave link, NOT cable any more.

Graham
More fibre these days, BT seems to be taking their large scale microwave
equipment's out of service very quickly.

They do however in common with other carriers seem to be using microwave
more for last mile applications but for "trunk" applications fibre is
the main or only means of transmission...
