Get rid of your television

Guest
Get rid of your television. It's the top cause of all the violence in
our world. Every day thousands of people are killed on tv, and that
reflects the deaths in the world. If you have any of these "death boxes"
in your home. Take the biggest hammer you can find, and smash it into
hundreds of pieces. (Be sure to unplug it first).

Lets rid the world of televisions!!!!

In de USA, that should be.
Death and violence is not so popular on TV in other places in the world.

What? The same programming can be viewed anywhere in the world.

Our "big three" still exists and they are not all about death and
violence.

Cable channels are not either.

How then would anyone be able to visit your bbq site, you fucking
retard?

Where did you learn to hit things with hammers that hammers
were not meant to be used to hit?

YOU are violent.

Violent jarks are not violent because they watched violence on a
TV. They are violent because they were raised wrong, and decided
that acts the rest of the world calls criminal are OK to commit.
It has nothing to do with a television. It has to do with whether or
not you have a bent brain.

I have a coffee klatch breakfast twice a week. The 5 of of us have
been watching TV for over 50 years each.
I see no violence or death at any of our breakfasts!
Is this one of those, but only if you watch for 100 years things?

Just don't watch the stupid shows.

Hollywood, the liberal-pacifist propaganda center of the world, is all
about sadism, violence, crime, and especially guns.

They sell a lot of that material to Americans so it's almost like they
"know their market" lol.

"Drama" makes for better TV than people being nice to each other. Making
a TV show or movie that just consisted of people being nice to each
other wouldn't sell too many tickets.

The technological medium of moving 2D pictures and audio is rather
limited, limited in the range of concepts its able to express well.

It's good at "expressing" explosions and shouting. It's not good at more
complex emotions or nuance. That's why when the news story or
documentary about someone's missing family member or other tragedy comes
on they play the weepy Adagio-for-strings type music in the background
to remind the viewer that it's time to feel sad, as the moving picture
is not good at indicating this intrinsically, that's part of the reason
film music and "laugh tracks" exist. People actually have trouble
psychologically "getting" the joke when it's on a 2D TV as compared to
real life where they'd get it just fine.

It's why there are so many jump-cuts, to artificially inject interest
and action into a non-interesting medium. The medium is itself no more
intrinsically interesting than a security camera feed.

The psychology of television and the motion picture industry is a very
dense topic which many books have been written about since the early
1950s probably, and some authors have been arguing for the elimination
of TV for about as long. In the 21st century they may get their wish but
not quite in the way they expected as more and more media-consumption
moves to PCs and phones and mobile devices.

nothing to sell. It's almost like they're a bunch of crass sell-outs for
a buck to the gun-loving Americans who love that stuff but don't
otherwise share any of their values on paper.

Hollywood made a ton of violent anti-communist movies too, remember
e.g. "Red Dawn"? The fifteen Rambo movies? etc. etc. They were immensely
popular and it wasn't liberals buying all the tickets.

JL sometimes acts as if Hollywood's incongruity on those matters isn't
something that's been written about by left-wing authors and pundits
many, many, many times...

If you took a large poll of all the things Mainstream America said they
would prefer to see in films Hollywood produces, and then they went and
tried to make films like that and sell them, they would go out of
business. Mainstream America would hate them for making the films they
said they would want, on paper.

It's very much the equivalent of design by committee. Even the committee
will think the end result sucks after it's done.

Soap operas don't tend to be violent but they sure have tons of
draaaaaamaaaa! I wouldn't call the emotions expressed in them
particularly "nuanced" though. Anger, jealousy, vindictiveness,
back-stabbing, etc. tend to be standard fare. Complex emotions like
longing or wistfulness or states like the Germans call "Sehnsucht" are
more difficult to convey

Healthy care-giving human relationships don't make for good soap opera
or TV material in general usually, though there are exceptions, like the
Waltons and Cosbys. The drama of the show usually consists of some
external force trying to challenge or damage the bonds of the characters
and the characters successfully resisting. characters vs world. So
there's usually an antagonist of some kind. There are basically only 6
or 8 generalized plot-types that exist for any kind of story...

Healthy romantic relationships can be downright boring sometimes and are
not well-suited to the drama-seeker.

There are soap operas for the younger straight male audience as well
it's called the WWF or "pro wrestling."

Sometimes some big-name actors and many small ones are in certain

Problem is the actors whose real life beliefs about firearms and

It's finally easier to train a liberal-pacifist actor to look like a
bad-ass firing guns on screen doing something they'd never normally be

That's actors job, though. They play roles and characters that they aren't.

Bad actors like Steven Seagal and Ronald Reagan tend to end up confused
about where their role starts and "they" begin.
