I started a new job 5 months ago that required me to be on the road a lot in the county where I live. This necessitated my first GPS purchase. After doing a lot of research, I settled on the Garmin 760. In general, it's great.Features that I really like:Speaking street names (useful and also entertaining at times)Spoken warning that your turn is someing up (twice before actual turn)Go Home with a single touchAbility to store other frequent locationsAbility to save routes and add/remove stops anywhere in the route laterAbility to see the entire route and turn by turn directions before driving or enroute (just touch the green bar at the top)The free traffic subscription that comes with it (really handy at rush hour)Bluetooth connectivityAbility to zoom in or out on the map while drivingPicture slide show (entertains the kids on the way back from their activities with pictures taken at the event)Automatic recalculation of route when you're detoured, miss a turn or bad trafficAdjustable volume and brightness - I drive a convertable so I was concerned about being able to hear directions directly from the unit and see the screen with the top down, but it hasn't been a pro
blem. I found I can see and hear even better with it mounted in the middle of my dashboard rather than on the windshield.Quirky things:When you pull off into a gas station, driveway or parking lot, many times it will still think you're on a street and try to recalculate your route. If you change your route in the parking lot or driveway, you kind of have to guess your first turn.Routing the sound thru your car speakers does work, but there's enough static to be annoying after a while and you can't listen to an actual station when you do this. I'm not sure how the distance to the turn is measured, but it does seem to be off by 20-50 feet, so when the unit is saying "turn left on to XYZ Street, you should already be in the process of making that turn. When you are sitting in an intersection, the distance to turn might show as 50 feet - but your right there, as soon as the light changes you will be turning. (This is why the 2 warnings of the turn coming up are so useful.)I bought a refurbished model because it was actually less expensive then the new entry level model and had some features that I find very useful that don't come on the new entry level model. The only problem
I had was registering it. It looked like the previous owner still had it registered. One call to Garmin quickly fixed that situation.Overall I'm extremely satisfied. It's very easy to use, most features are pretty intuitive. I highly recommend it to everyone.
It's amazing. I don't know how to work everything on it yet, but it looks good. I wish there were more directions to follow. Like How to tell it to take a different route than the one it set-up? I still like it and look forward to using it more.
After doing a ton of research, I decided on the new 760. Garmin is the only way to go. I am so pleased with this purchase! Right out of the box, it worked perfectly. Easy to set up, tons of features with a bright & crisp widescreen picture. It was simple to pair it with my phone and works flawlessly. I can easily make calls from my address book or select a POI from the menu & call for hours, reservations, etc. FM transmission is really handy. I just turn to the designated FM station when I really need the navigation directions and I hear them clearly through the car stereo speakers. The map is so clear, I don't even need the voice prompts. I even downloaded some free additional vehicles and voices just for fun. It was simple to do from the website. It also has tons of options for points of interest. Found restaurants and stores in my area that I wasn't even aware of. So glad I bought it. I would get one soon...before they are all gone!
I received my Garmin & immediately turned it on, in less than 1 min. it found a satellite. I'm pleased with all of the feature except the traffic alerts. To be honest I'm about 30 mi from the closest coverage area, but once in the coverage area I did not receive any alerts. I had to continually change the frequency because I kept getting radio splash overs.Pros: Quick satellite tracking. Accurate directions, I live in a large condo community and it accurately navigates the streets. Re-routes quickly.Cons: Just one I thing the fm transmitter would serve the purpose better if it allowed you to listen to your station of choice and cut in with directions or traffic alerts.I have only had it less the a month and I'll update if needed.
Stick with garmin!!This unit is loaded with features, and the wide screen makes it easy to use.I liked the 760 so much that I gave it to my brother for his birthday, and have ordered another one for myself.

Which nßvi is Best for You?: Click here to see a quick, simple comparison of features for all Garmin nuvi GPS navigators Garmin's nßvis pack top of the line features into a slim form factor. Wider scre
en lets you see more of what's around. Compare these actual size views of a 3-inch (diagonal) screen and a 4.3-inch diagonal widescreen New Features -- Where Am I? Where's My Car? The nüvi 700 series is the first to answer two common questions: "Where am I?" and "Where’s my car?" At any time, with a single tap of the screen, drivers can display their exact latitude and longitude coordinates, the nearest address and intersection, and the closest hospitals, police stations and gas stations. And to help drivers find their car in an unfamiliar spot or vast parking lot, all nüvi 700s automatically mark the position in which they were last removed from the mount. New Features -- Multi-Destination Routing This lets you enter several spots into the device (day care - supermarket-cleaners - office - day care, for example) and it will plot the fastest route. And once you've found the best router, the "Route Planning" feature lets you save up to 10 different routes, Garmin touts the feature for providing, "the most efficient route for errands, deliveries and sales calls." The feature also makes this an instant essential accessory for anyone who shops garage sales (you know what we
're talking about). A trip log provides an electronic bread crumb trail of up to 10,000 points, so you can see where you've been on the map. See Better, See More The super-bright, 4.3-inch (diagonal) touchscreen display gives is anti-glare for ease of viewing during the day and automatically changes its color profile for easy viewing at night or in dim light. It offers 2d or 3D perspective views. The widescreen format gives you 70% more actual screen area than a 3.5-inch screen. Primarily this translates into a better view of the area through which you are driving. This is especially useful in showing you what parks, restaurants, ATM, gas stations, etc. are nearby, or in letting you know whether a detour is a good idea. Also, the device itself is larger, meaning controls on the screen are more widely spaced and somewhat easier to push. First Rate Map Data All nĂźvi 700s come preloaded with highly detailed City Navigator NT road maps for the entire United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. This map database features nearly six million points of interest (POIs), including hotels, restaurants, gas stations, ATMs, and attractions. Garmin gets its map data from NAVTEQ, a world leader
in premium-quality mapping. Important note about map updates: Due to our high volume of sales, almost every Garmin portable GPS navigator sold by Amazon.com will come with the most recent map version. If you ever do need a map update, you can purchase one from Amazon.com at our Garmin Store. Hands-Free Calling In more and more places, it is becoming illegal to use cell phones while driving without a hands-free kit. WIth Bluetooth capability, microphone and speaker, you can match your nĂźvi to any bluetooth-capable phone to make hands-free mobile phone calls. Simply dial the phone number with the nĂźvi's touch screen keypad to make a call on a compatible phone. To answer an incoming call, just tap the screen and speak into the built-in microphone. Making and taking calls on the road has never been easier, or safer. In addition, Garmin makes it a breeze to look-up and dial numbers from your personalized phone book or even tap into your cell phone's call history log. Integrated FM Traffic Receiver Steer clear of traffic with an integrated FM traffic receiver designed to receive alerts from TMC Clear Channel about traffic tie-ups and road construction that might lie ahead on yo
ur route. All you have to do is simply touch the screen to view traffic details and you'll be ready to detour around any problem area. And if you end up missing a turn, or you're forced into a detour that is not relayed through the traffic receiver, the nüvi's sophisticated automatic routing will get you back on track in no time. In most areas, TMC Clear Channel traffic broadcasts are continuous — there's no waiting for scheduled traffic news updates or random alerts. Because traffic broadcasts are received via a "silent" FM data channel, you can still listen to music or news programming on your car radio without interference from incoming FM traffic data transmissions. A 3-month subscription to TMC Clear Channel's Total Traffic Network is included with purchase of this device. For more information on subscription fees, coverage in individual cities, and traffic data networks in the United Kingdom and Europe, check the Garmin website. Garmin Lock Garmin's patent pending theft prevention system that disables the unit from performing any functions until the user types in a specific 4-digit PIN or takes the unit to a predetermined secure location Easy To Use Interface Garmin'
s interface is a key to their success and one of the things that makes their devices such a pleasure to use.
