So this stuff I have from Jaycar that has a a N on it, is that from the
Northern Territory?

** N = NSW.

Even though its all China made.?

** Depends what stuff.

Is there a tick in front of the N ???

N prefix numbers are also given to "C tick" approved items most of
which are not on the prescribed list.

Australia has not yet adopted compulsory electrical safety approval as
is the case in Europe so C tick and safety approval can exist separately.
what is c tick

Ummm, is it just me? That page, and most of the links from it, seem long
on waffle, bullet pointed lists of buzzwords, but short on facts.

If you want real numbers, how many volts, what water pressure, it must
withstand, you have to go somewhere else and buy a paper document..

Since I couldn't find listed most of the gear we use I assume no
Declaration of Safety, or Approval for Sale is required for computers,
monitors, amplifiers, powered speakers, mixing desks, &c.

Yes move to the UK, NZ has the most useless standards that are not even
inforced, like a lot of things the Gov left it to the Public, passing the
buck you might say..

Well a lot of people have asked that you move back to the UK, and stop
bludging off the tax payer here in NZ. Yet here you stay.

Isn't a bit rich for you to lay back and continue servicing electrical gear,
whilst you are unregistered, and receiving ACC payouts, yet moan constantly
about life in NZ?

As previously mentioned by YOU, you work, unregistered on electrical
components (as always lamenting how crap they are and of course in your day
when you were working on guided missles my those were the days yet I hate
NewZealand and everyone in it they're lazy people)...Me I'm on holiday. That
means I'm getting a shit load of money to sit in the sun all day long.

This is quite a big can of worms IMO

It used to be in NZ that everything imported into the country was
supposed to have some kind of electrical certification or approval, I
think this is so of Australia as well.

As an example I have here a PDL plugbox, made in Christchurch NZ, carries
a type approval number N/10224. Since the company is well known one would
have a reasonable degree of certaintly about the approval number, as one
would about HPM stuff.

Now, more common example these days. Go to Bunnings and buy an Elto brand
4 way plugbox for $1. It carries a type approval number Qxxxx. The
product is manufactured in China. There is no indication whatsoever of
who or what granted this type approval number or what it actually means.

When every tom dick and harry is importing electrical stuff mass produced
in some far flung corner of Asia rebranded to the supplier's name, how
can we be sure that it meets electrical safety standards? One is pretty
much buying such gear sight unseen. Given the quality of some of the
products made in third world countries it is a reasonable question I
feel.
Elto is a brand distributed by C.D.B Media in NZ. It used to be the
PDL Industries retail division. Quite ironic that they are selling
cheap imported electrical stuff!
I would guess that Bunnings are sourcing it from them.

Now that you've got that admission off your chest Woger, whatever happened
to your electrical serviceman registration?

Oh that's right, you never had one...

I'd really hate to be your employer. Sooner or later someone's going to
tip off the ERB and they will be facing large fines as a sresult.

cerdentials,
Woger - you have posted NOTHING that proves you've EVER been registered
or that you've EVER had any "credentials".

If you've got old certificates - why don't you scan them, produce a Jpeg
image place them on your website and tell us all the URL.

You well know that this will remove all doubt.

It is now time for your to put up your "credentials" or to shut up about
what you don't have.

That is exactly the answer that I expected from you.

If you had "credentials" you'd be proud of them and would show them.
Certainly I myself am proud of my Audio Engineering certificate - it
represents a full year of hard work and study. I would pursue the subject
further if their was a follow-up course here in WN. Alas only the Auckland
campus - and I won't move to Auckland.

For Chrissakes, people - *ENOUGH* already !

This argument has been going back and forth on here for years - as have
arguments about Sheppard's (non?)-qualifications and electrical
(non?)-registration, and veiled (and not-so-veiled) threats of reports to
the EWRB.

For fuck's sake, someone MAKE the bloody report instead of just flapping
your gums about it. Let the relevant authorities make their
investigations, prosecute Sheppard and/or his supposed employer if
warranted, and let's have done with all this bullshit once and for all!
