I found some components that I needed on Ebay, so I bid on them. Guy
wanted $5 minimum bid, so I figured I'd win 'em if I bid $8. After all,
the guy probably has a bunch more, and will have another auction when he
sells these. Well, someone outbid me, got them for $8.50, the only
bidders were him and I.
So I checked my inbox, and I had an email from
secondchanceoffer@ebay.com, offering me the same parts for the same $8 I
had bid on them. AH-Hahhhh! The guy _does_ have a bunch of them, and
he will take any offer, even minimum bid!
So I got back on Ebay and sure enough, he again had another auction for
the same parts. So I bid $6 for them this time, and waited a few days
til the auction ended. Someone outbid me, got them for $6.50.
I check my email and Bingo! There's the second chance offer again, this
time offering them for my max bid, $6.00. Ta-DAH!
So I got them for not only less than what I offered in the first
auction, but for less than the winner of the second auction paid!
Hee-hee!
I've pulled that shenanigan once or twice before, it's a good way to
outfox the foxes. If you want to read a really good story (or bad,
depending if you're a seller or buyer), check this out. I think I, too,
have been a victim of shilling.
