DVI Connector on TV use with PC ?

Hey all,
I have a Toshiba 34" TV that has a DVI input on it. I'd like to use it with
a PC that has a DVI, but the manual for the TV says it should not be
connected to a PC.

All I can think of is that the TV may not like the sync signals if the vid
card is set at the wrong resolution and refresh rates.

But why bother with the DVI if you can't do this ?

Any help appreciated.

Specifically if the device is not designed to be used as a computer monitor
the operator's guide will indicate that fact. Which is what Toshiba is
trying to tell you with their disclaimer. Presumably the Direct Video Input
is for use with HD convertors. What I personaly would do is if my computer
is DVI compatible then I'd hook it up to see what effect is displayed. Worse
case senerio would be a very distorted, out of sync, on no display. Just
connecting it should not do any damage to either the tele or computer.

Thanks for the input.

Might be trouble setting the video card to an interlaced signal of 60Hz.
Seems to me there must be some standards for these interfaces and on a new
interface design and you'd think other products with the same interface
should be compliant and compatible.

Well it's back to google to see if I can find the signal specs.

res...

Can someone please confirm whether DVI means "Direct Video Input", or
"Digital Video Interface"?

Are they the same thing?

Thanks a lot.

I found this link on Dell's website that answered most of my DVI questions:

I think most DVI of VGA card try to read EDID (or DDC) before video signal
out.

If your TV set doesn't support the data then the VGA card doesn't work
correctly.
If you have some warning message on your TV screen then your set supply the
EDID.

If you have some warning message like " out of rage......" then you'd better
using VGA card control program.
I'd like to recommend PowerStrip.
PowerStrip supports user mode setting so you can make some resolution and
refresh rate.
Scan conversion is a piece of cake with PowerStrip.

Good luck to you....
