Commercially printed Lexan is expensive, so the
hobbiest bit might be to find a nice tough label you can print with a
laser printer. Might want to stick a sheet of clear over the laser
printing ?

Print in reverse on the lower side ('second-surface printing'). OHP film
works.

Only a very few inkjet (and maybe no laser) printers will print opaque
white. The colors are also quite transparent. I use screening methods,
but it involves some investment for materials and equipment, costs
money for each design (for screen and die(s)), and is very
messy/smelly.

Here's an example: http://www.speff.com/tachs.jpg
I've had good results for prototypes printing on the reverse of OHP film using
3 colour plus black ink jet then spraying the remainder white. That way you can
have any colour you want. It's then glued using aerosol glue.

Naturally; for OHP they wouldn't work if opaque!

I print only the legends and use a coloured paper or plastic sheet for
the background colour.

I've done that, too, but of course it doesn't work with inkjet printing
because the spray solvent re-dissolves the ink. For black legends only,
a photocopy works.

I'll suggest the 3M transfer stuff or a sheet of sticky backed Mylar to
stick to it without disolving the ink.

Cellulose spray destroys the actual substrate, water based (quite common now
for cars, especially 2 pack) destroys the ink, 1 pack polyeurethane works fine
with normal ink jet cartridges.

You increase the speed of a stepper by increasing the step frequency.
It
will have a huge angular momentum, so don't try to accelerate
quickly.
But why a stepper motor? Surely you don't need to control the
instantaneous position of a fan? I would have thought a linear
induction
motor operating on an aluminium band round the rim would have been a
lot
easier.

Well, I must say, I feel like a dummy. LIM is exactly what I had in
mind.

Not like I thought the idea was new or anything, but all the various
"extra" features that I thought I could add like rapidily discharching
stored engergy using supercaps has already been done. That are several
nice, big, fat juicy papers put out by U.S. Department of Energy on
this subject.

RFID - The Perfect Storm

ZombieWire RFID world News - Everything you need to know about RFID and
more.

(PRWEB) December 3, 2004 -- We the consumers are at a brink in life
where we will move from the simple task at the market place to purchase
supplies for home, office, motor home and others as you can imagine. We
walk in the store and purchase these items and hand down cash or card
for the items scanned using the barcode system. Seems pretty simple
however none threatening to your privacy. However these times have come
to an end. You might as well say it is at your door right now, but 90
percent of all consumers are non- aware of this fact. This reason is
that if that percentage knew of this fact then the process would stop
in its tracks because of what is behind the new movement and normal
people would not want it to continue with this.

Wal-Mart the "super power" monster store found a new direction in
how they will run their shop and being so they informed the supply
chain around the world to make it so with all products purchased by
Wal-Mart. Having mandated the supply chained complied and this set off
the shot heard around the business world. All retail competitors had to
follow the lead in order to compete. The mandate is that all items sold
via Wal-Mart will have a Radio Frequency Identification chip or in
simple terms RFID chip implanted in all products sold. What is an RFID?

What is RFID?Radio frequency identification, or RFID, is a generic term
for technologies that use radio waves to automatically identify
individual items. There are several methods of identifying objects
using RFID, but the most common is to store a serial number that
identifies a product, on a microchip that is attached to an antenna
(called an RFID transponder or an RFID tag).

AT this time as the Trojan horse at the door consequently there is
nothing we can do about it because the gears are in motion; however, we
need to learn everything we can about the RFID movement to maintain our
privacy rights. You will not be able to "sell" any products without
the RFID as you see in the barcode today. This RFID chip will go home
with you and one day your home will be filled up with RFID chips. How
would you feel if your home items were public knowledge from a certain
book you have to what style and size under pants? You ask how that may
become public awareness. Theoretically speaking if a van pulled out
side your home with a RFID transponder, there is way for that person in
the van to inventory your private life, and who knows what would take
place once that knowledge is out. You ever heard the saying "keep and
honest man honest: approach? Think about this!

Likewise, the RFID market has not stopped here and it will continue to
transpire to greater levels beyond our comprehension. There is a RFID
chip out now called the Verichip. This Verichip is imbedded in the
human body. This Verichip may store your Visa Card, bank debit card and
social security and other information that takes the place of your
purse.

The perfect storm: In theory, what will become of the Verichip by means
of how we see progress continue to unfold? Will the Verichip be mandate
as the RFID chip is mandate for all products you buy or sell?

I will leave you with this "Buyer Beware"

Hi. This is Rich, from s.e.d . Diane somebody-or-other posted to some
thread that accidentally got crossposted here, calling us all fuckheads.

So, I thought, before I pass judgement, I'd at least go see what kind of
folks hang out at r.t.c, thinking it'd be kind of a namby-pamby group.
I've read a few posts, and was well into deciding that the r.t.c folks
are even lamer than us s.e.d trolls, and then along comes Becca, with
a message that I think we can all appreciate:

At this very busy time of the year, when it is easy to get stressed out,
I thought this might be helpful. I am passing this on to you because it
definitely worked for me and we all could use more calm in our lives. By
following the simple advice I heard on a Dr. Phil show, I have finally
found inner peace.

Dr. Phil proclaimed "The way to achieve inner peace is to finish all the
things you've started."

So I looked around my house to see all the things I started and hadn't
finished. This morning, I finished off a bottle of Merlot, a bottle of
White Zinfandel, a bottle of Bailey's, a bottle of Kahlua, a package of
Oreos, the remainder of both Prozac and Valium prescriptions, the rest
of the cheesecake, some saltines and a box of chocolates. I still
haven't left the house and you have no idea how freaking peaceful I feel.

Please pass this on to those you feel are in need of inner peace.

The funny thing is that most of these guys carry a cellphone with them that
allows continuously locating them at *all* times and places and even to

external power may be present even when the MCU is powered down.

we use the mega 16 with a pair of 22p cog caps at crystal frequencies from
4MHz to 16MHz- works every time- unless you forget to blow the internal fuse
which enables the crystal oscillator when programming -otherwise the shipped
default is to use the internal 1MHz RC oscillator
This caused major confusion when moving from the mega 161 which defaulted
to external xtal

Its all very simple.
Just connect a pre-set capacitor in shunt with the crystal.
Maximum value a little greater than whatever it says in the specification.
And tweak it until the crystal oscillates at exactly the frequency you want.

The various values mentioned in the specification are there just to confuse
you and to demonstrate how clever the salesman is.
