Driver to drive?

Hi,

Well I'm not expert, but I can think of some problems with this. First,
it's cost more. You'd need a big chunk fo flash ROM to store the
drivers. This reason alone probably makes it unfeasible. Also what
happens when the company wants to update the drivers? Most devices are
shipped with old version. You'd probably want to download the latest
ones from the web anyway.

I don't think the extra cost/complexity outweighs just shipping the
customer a CD with the product.

cheers,

Al

1) simply connecting to the printer port and kludging a way to read the
port
under windows (not always reliable).
Should be perfectly Ok, provided your custom driver is!

Any suggestions?
Soundcard - available on any PC and has drivers already - and an encoder to
map 4 bits into distinct voltage levels; i.e. a DAC (or 5 resistors....).
Then decode on the application side. Charge a bundle for the converter box
;-)

Here is one

That one is overly complex with poor performance, and has a
fatal flaw to boot. Not recommended.

I cannot tell since I have not yet used the two 500 pcs bags of BC547/BC557
I bought for total amont of about USD 7. some time ago. I only *needed* 10

This illustrates the problem. Customer went down to Pep Boys and

Then go buy a handful out of petty cash, and put yourself as supplier.

Good Luck!

Regarding the topic here I wonder what would be the most popular cheap
npn power work horse. When I was a kid the 2N3055 was used for almost
everything.
And did that suck too ;-)

Something in TIP and TO220/TO247 would be my favourite today - or maybe
"Deflection", the BU25xx since the 2N3055 usually appears to be driving
ingnition coils, judging from the posts.

What would you recommend?

That one is overly complex with poor performance, and has a

I'd build one around the HIP4081A. Look at the data sheets and app notes
on the Intersil website.

Yes of course I took Burridge's post as the literal truth... I do know
that a recent poll of the UK showed 70% of the population favoring
withdrawal from Iraq.

A 1kW H-bridge is not a good choice for a high-power-novice
copy-the-schematic project (making no assumptions about you).

I'd begin with my favorite HIP4081A H-bridge driver IC, add
some large MOSFETs, evaluate snubbers and filters, and move
on to considering protection and controller schemes. Hmm,
perhaps that's backward, and one should start by evaluating
recent motor-controller ICs first, and move on FETs, etc.

Quite understandably.

I regret that's beyond my powers! There's an election due next spring,
probably. Then we'll see what the 'great unwashed' make of his record.
