De-Soldering question

I'm thinking about buying a De-Soldering iron (about $350) as
being hours away from a stockist it seems a waste to dump all these chips
I seem to comebye.

So what I would like to know is, in the process of de-Soldering the IC's
would they still be OK or would they most likely be stuffed in the
process and I would be better off going back to my first idea of
drinking my $350.

Hi, you should be able to get them off the board ok but drinking the 350 is a
much better idea.

If the pcboards are strickly to salvage the chips? You might look into a

board burner like a toaster the destroys the board and lets you simply pick
the parts off. Useing infrared like a heat lamp may do it, you may still
need to clean the leads. Obviously you heat the board on the run side and
not the parts .
I usually use side cutters to cut the board around the chips then heat the
leads to slide off the runs. fwiw.
