A lot were content to sit 2016 out but the President referring to white
supremacists as \"very fine people\" probably wasn\'t the best sales tactic
overall if increasing popularity among that demographic was what he was
going for.

Racist.

Not true. The socioeconomic-demographic pretty much defines the school district they group up in and the quality of the primary and secondary schools they attend, which is rock-bottom.

Nothing racist about that. The fact that US society has a history of not paying non-white racial/ethnic groups decent salaries is a historical fact and it does have socioeconomic consequences.

That is just too funny!!! But it would be really hard for Biden to lose the popular vote.

Actually it was the difficulty of counting the popular vote that was the original reason for adopting the electoral college system. Back in the 18th century when a lot of the country was backwater frontier , roads were mud holes, and everything went really, really slowly, the electoral voting system was the only way to conclude the election in a timely manner. The electors were empowered to throw their vote based on their personal perception of how the popular vote was going in their district, they didn\'t need to actually count anything. There was probably a good chance the counts were corrupted too, people were even more unscrupulous back then.
The way things are now, what with the ignorance level of the voters and all the lying politicians, the less people that vote the better. The much vaunted \"founding fathers\" of this country are spinning in their graves over the kinds of people entitled to vote these days. They would never have allowed it.

There was actually a very early attempt at revolution in Russia in 1825, and they even adopted the U.S. constitution as well as many political principles. It was difficult to overthrow the tsars. It would take another 100 years for Nicholas II to mismanage the country into a total disintegrated mess before that could happen.

Wrong on two counts. Firstly, she\'s Catholic. Second, the Constitution is
a work document, not a religion, to a law worker. No judge should
confuse those two things. Don\'t expect Roe vs. Wade to
go away, or find any \"conservative\" character in a legal decision. Law

That\'s the first time I have heard that. You just don\'t convince a bunch of farmers to fight for elitists (although that is what the Dims are doing today). Here is the reality:

The American Enlightenment was a critical precursor of the American Revolution. Chief among the ideas of the American Enlightenment were the concepts of natural law, natural rights, consent of the governed, individualism, property rights, self-ownership, self-determination, liberalism, republicanism, and defense against corruption. A growing number of American colonists embraced these views and fostered an intellectual environment which led to a new sense of political and social identity.

It\'s an American exceptionalist point of view. You need to read up on the Radical Enlightenment, which Jonathon Israel traces back to Spinoza. What the Wikipedia article calls the American Enlightenment was part of that. The people who wrote the US constitution were followers of the Moderate Enlightenment, articulated by Locke amongst others, which found Spinoza and the French encyclopediasts a bit too radical for their taste, and toned it all down far enough to let the rich and powerful feel comfortable about screwing over everybody else, provided they didn\'t do it too ostentatiously.

People like Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Paine weren\'t convinced, but they didn\'t have enough money or political power to have a say, once the revolutionary war had been won, and the masses didn\'t need to be motivated any more.

Sure, but such a state was going to be Dem anyhow.

A small state has no incentive to sign up for a popular-vote compact.
A swing state neither.

So California can agree to assign all its electors to the popular vote
winner, and then maybe be forced to have them all vote for a
Republican president. That would sure be fun. Yet another short-term
idea that can backfire, like eliminating the filibuster for supreme
court votes.
