Becoming more familiar with electronics??

I posted a question here earlier and have received some good response. Much
Appreciated.
I have always been interested in electronics and am looking to expand my
horizons.
In your opinion where is the best place to start.
I thought I might try the local TV repair shop and see if they are looking
to take on an apprentice of sorts for next to nothing.
