The operator's manual very explicitly states that you must not turn

I really don't give a crap what the manual states. It's *DUMB*.

So, you're part of the cadre that refuses to RTFM because you're so
smart you don't need to read about the details, and then, when
something goes awry and you get yourself into an accident which hurts
someone else, it's not your fault, of course, it's the dumb manual's?

Sloman was right about you, you're despicable.

Also, many cars don't engage the steering lock until you pull the key
completely out of the lock.

Most do.

Really?

Post a list.

Another interesting feature is that the steering lock does not engage
until the steering wheel has been turned a considerable amount off
center: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fEA8cR32knQ

So you'd better be on a straight road? BTW, that's a dumb idea, too.
The wheels should be straight when parked (it's hard on the power
steering pump to leave them at an angle).
---
Wow!

Save the power steering pump but let the humans die?

Even more wisdom from the sage who doesn't seem to know that if you're
parallel parked downhill you should steer into the curb and if you're
parallel parked uphill you should steer away from the curb.

Huh? Power steering is a hydraulic servo, at _any_ non-movement
position the piston is bypassed.

Ever rebuilt one? I have ;-)

Very nice, you nailed the KRWPOS.

Maybe they do exist, but I've never seen a car where turning the key to
'off' also locked the wheel. I've always had to turn 1 click farther
than 'off' before the wheel locks. I had a Pontiac that was prone to
stalling, and I never needed to even turn it as far as 'off'. Just shift
into neutral and crank the engine until it starts.

BTW, it's *DUMB* (and possibly illegal) to park with your wheels
straight if you are parked on a hill.

yourself, all alone, against all of us.
