PS. Arpit, take it from someone with many years
experience of firearms, while potato cannons are
great fun they are also an accident waiting to
happen - as the triplex glass in my sliding door
can testify

PPS. They constitute a "firearm" under the various
state firearm acts and if the police decide to charge
you with unlicensed possession of a firearm and a
few other offences they chuck in for good measure
you _could_ go to jail and you _certainly_ will be
prohibited from owning firearms for at least 10 years,
not to mention a _huge_ fine or community service
or similar.

What volume of air do you want to move and at what pressure ?

Obviously vacuum cleaners do move quite a bit
of air, and there are plenty of air compressors
available at even places like Woolys now.

People are constantly throwing away old refrigerators here, at council
pickup day. Would i just be able to cut the tubing and take the pump
out, or would that result in an eyeful of freon? If its pressurised,
could i csquash the tubing in a vice and then cut it there? Is there
some method which'd allow me to remove the pump on the street, without
carting the fridge back to my house?

Cant see these being that viable.

Second-hand air-compressors can be picked up cheap in the local
papers. Just be sure to get a belt-driven unit not direct drive.

Fuck the rooting around with refridgeration compressors, I've got a
spray gun for mine and the compressor runs full-time while using it
but even 20 mins contineous use is no problem. I imagine it would be a
total bitch having to spray for 30 seconds and then stop and wait for
the compressor to get back up to pressure.

Spray guns normally need around 60-80 PSI.

just as an update, mr Crighton has given me two very solid compressor
units, belt drive. Everything is so solid that on one, undoing the
bolt which holds the pulley wheel in place left me only with a
stripped power drill hex thingey, never seen that happen before. The
drill was drawing 30-40 amps. But anyway, I'm going to drive them with
a washing machine motor, I just need to find a belt.

Under mona vale road near bonds nursery there is a cycle underpass and
in there is a car which is dented and has all its windwos smashed. I
think ill go along there with a makeshift crowbar and grab the fan
belt.
WHen i connect the washing machine motor what i'll probably do is put
a cloth over the output- as it is it blows stinky air when hand
cranked and squirt some oil into the intake. I beleive they have
been idle for 25 years. they look really impressive
