I pulled one of those Yageo 5W ceramic and cement resistors from a
board, it's the kind that's often used as the collector load resistor
for video drivers. These are 1k or more, and apparently non-inductive.
Well, I smacked this one with the shank of a screwdriver and broke off
the white ceramic and cement, and what did I find? It looks like a much
smaller 1 or 2W regular resistor, with the spiral element around a
ceramic core. Apparently they just use all the cement and ceramic to
sink the heat away, it's nothing useful otherwise except to make it much
bigger. I'm surprised that it was that small.
