3 HOTs later

I have a Teac 34 cm TV that blows the HOT between B and E. I replaced the
HOT and there it went again, it also took the driver. I then found some
shorted caps (not sure what section) and used the 100watt light bulb to
start it up. It started in standby mode so I hit the remote, another dead
HOT. So what am I looking for ? the trippler or something on the output of
the HOT or something
on the input like the H drive transformer ?

How about the Make and Model .

I have seen HOT blown INSTANTLY on start-up too, the ONLY thing it really
can be is the flyback,
nothing else blows them that fast, even yokes. Put in a new HOT, but don't
connect the base drive;
check the drive waveform first. It may only come on for a few seconds if the
set does not start,
you have to be quick...this also lets you check the B+ voltage too, 120-130V
is common.

is that a TEAC CTM341MKII?

just a whiled guess?

Hold the phones, the B -> E measures about 40 ohms, after reading sam
articles, this might be normal. The C -E also measures in one direction and
that might be normal, so with the light bulb trick how bright should it glow
and how much of the set start ?

cheers
Mike (ps I use a 100w light with 240v supply)

Hold the phones, the B -> E measures about 40 ohms, after reading sam
articles, this might be normal. The C -E also measures in one direction and
that might be normal, so with the light bulb trick how bright should it glow
and how much of the set start ?

cheers
Mike (ps I use a 100w light with 240v supply)
What is the HOT? If it has a damper diode, this IS normal.

I would be too.

Since I'm NOT a Professional and promise not to take my CRT to you (after
I've hacked it up that is), could you point out the "HOT" transistor in the
below URL to me ?

I'd appreciate your Professional input! :>)

Sorry you feel so "threatened" by NON-Professionals John.

So, this forum is dedicated to PROFESSIONALS ONLY and NOT for
everyday
"STUPID" people to try and learn how to repair electronics ??

Best take the set to a service shop
sounds to me like you dont have a clue.
No disrespect, but it sounds like it would be cheaper
in the long run.

I don't know this particular model, but other than a faulty flyback or
yoke, I would be checking that the B+ is OK. If it is not, then
replace the small electros on the primary side of the PS. Another
culprit in early Philips sets was an O/C tuning cap in the line output
stage. An O/C tuning cap causes instant HOT failure in these sets, and
can even pinhole the picture tube, so I've been told.

Is it not the BU2525 at the top of the second schematic? I'd expect
that to be the biggie, heatsunk.

Especially since it drives the flyback transformer ...
