Hi,
I have a Zenith 32" TV IQB32B42W 9-2102 in my shop with black screen (menu
can't be seen), but good sound. Customer said picture would come on after a
while, but no more. I checked IC2200 CXA2061S and found video (1V P-P) at pin
4. Serial/clock signals (5V P-P) at pins 35,34. B+ 9v at pins 33 & 44, but no
RGB signal output from pins 22, 23, 24. At one time, the output signal
appeared and picture appeared. Cooling/heating IC, etc. had no effect. I
went over solder joints etc. but the screen remains black, except that one
time. I suspect this IC may be faulty, but what do you think?

Thanks in advance, Brad

Tip for your old computer (reduce discard pollution too):

If you can't sell your old computer, don't throw it away. Use it to backup
your software by transferring files/folders from your new computer or laptop
to it. I transferred my Windows folder and other stuff to my old computer
using "PC Link", which I downloaded from www.simtel.net (cool site).

IQB line has a similar AKB circuit as the Sony sets if I remember right. It
would go into full video blanking for the same reasons as the Sony sets.
The system control must be seeing the hsync and vsync return pulses and
receive an all ok from the jungle ic as well.

The fact that it uses a Sony ic should also be a tip off, CXA=Sony made ic.

Do you get a raster when you turn up the G2?

Do you get a raster when you turn up the G2?
A very good question indeed.

I have one of these on my bench right now awaiting customer
pickup. Similar complaint. Picture was slow to come on, then no
picture. Sound OK. Advancing the G-2 gave a raster. I tapped the
neck of the CRT and BAM, the picture came on but I thought uh-oh.
This isn't a pretty pix. The red and green were very weak, CRT
testing confirmed low emission on those guns. So I thought, Hmmm,
could it be? Some crud intermittently shorting out the CRT? Yes, it
was.
New pix tube installed (in warranty), no more problems.

Incidentially, the CRT was NOT manufactured by Zenith.

No it is not a Zenith crt, but I too have seen quite a few with bad crts and
black screen until the G2 gets turned up.
