Zenith SM2568S Vertical Collapse

My TV started intermittently vertically collapsing on me. I would hit
the side of the set, and the picture would come back up. Now it is
collapsed all the time. After doing a little bit of research on the
internet, I am thinking I probably have a Cold Solder somewhere, most
likely on the vertical IC. I have a small amount of TV knowledge, and
decent electronics knowledge, but I feel a little blind without a
schematic or service manual. The vertical IC is at the back of the
board on the right hand side (when looking from the back with the
cover off) correct? And it has a heatsink on it? Am I correct to think
it is the vertical IC? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks! Dan

I had the exact thing happen to my set (same model) and it was a poor
solder connection at a capacitor associated with the vertical IC. Look
at every trace going to the IC and touch up all the nearby components
before replacing the IC.

Yes, it's a bad connection. Solder the leads on the IC, but also look for any
parts close to the IC that have white glue gooped around them. The parts glued
to the board have a tendancy to get bad connections also.
