Zenith C32V37 HDTV occasionally "zaps"

After a couple days of owning this unit, I am now the third Amazon.com
reviewer

to notice that this model occasionally "zaps." Titles of the 3 reviews are

"Feature-rich, high-quality except for zapping" (mine, 3/31/04)
"Set ZAPS and flickers at will" (2/18/04)
"There seems to be a problem with component video" (1/31/04)

The "zapping" looks roughly similar to a momentary power glitch (even after
I put the HDTV on an Uninterruptible Power Supply with Automatic Voltage
Regulation) or a static electric shock. Sometimes the HDTV can play for
hours without zapping; other times it zaps as soon as I turn it on. It has
never zapped during a DVD (coming in through component video or composite
video), only while watching over-the-air HDTV coming in through an RF
antenna input. Admittedly, I have not logged too many hours of testing in
this scant 48 hours of ownership.

The store I purchased this from has agreed to send me a formal bill of sale
(which they forgot to give me on Monday at the time of purchase), so I can
avail myself of warranty service if necessary. At the moment, though, the
zapping does not occur often enough to constitute an actionable warranty
complaint, I think.

Any ideas as to what could cause this? More importantly, will this get
worse over time?

Take it back to the Store.....
Get another set or different Make.

Perhaps I should have made clear that this otherwise wonderful HDTV cost me
only $375. I could not possibly get a replacement, of the same or different
make, for the same price. I could get my money back, but as I mentioned, I
will probably instead simply call the nearby factory-owned service center as
soon as my official bill of sale arrives.

I would call for factory service as this could be a simple issue like a cold
solder joint in the HV section. It's worth a call just to ask.

This is a high voltage arcing. This can be from something in the high
voltage section breaking down, and also including the CRT as well.

Ok You will have trouble for life with that set.
Good Luck you have been warned.

At one time this was an occasional problem with new sets; the CRT would arc
every now and then, with the timing becoming longer and longer between arcs
until the tube burned in; probably caused by residual gas in CRT. If the set
continues doing this, or if frequency increases, get another set.

I just got in a newer Samsung HDTV Model TXN2668WHF with a shorted H.O.T.
After getting in Q401 p/n 0502-001230, I found that the CRT was arcing
internally (W66QDE893X200) The set showed no physical damage, and Samsung
doesn't seem to have this model listed anywhere as current, so it could be a
design flaw in the set itself. If anyone has a tube that's good or needs a
good chassis, let me know.
