True, the only selling points of XM are , no commercials and digital
quality.
The commercial free aspect will go away once they've gotten enough
subscribers hooked on this new medium. If you don't believe that just
look at cable television. We can all remember when it was completely
free of commercial, after all that's what the subscribers payed for,
commercial free, uncensored viewing.
As for me I can get the digital quality I want from cd's and the newer
24bit digital audio from DVD's and for a whole lot less than what it
costs to buy the XM hardware and pay the monthly fees.
(For what one pays for the crap that they call cable service nowadays
I can rent a ton of movies at my local video store.(when I cancelled
cable I was paying over 70 bucks a month just to get the 1 or 2 movie
they'd run. Renting I get the half dozen or so movies every month from
my local video store, get them in DVD which is better quality, and pay
less than 15 buck.)
Subscribing to ANY entertainment service today is a terrible waste of
money.

It took you this long to come up with a halfway good point?
Seriously, some folks like the lack of commercials. Me? I'll just listen to
FM -- it doesn't cost anything and there's a fair guarantee that a radio
that will play it can be found easily and right away.
TV and radio (even the premium offerings) just don't seem worth paying for
to me.

Not true! Starting Feb 1, 2004, all music channels will be 100%Too bad, it's not truly commercial free anymore. Just like cable was
supposed to be commercial free, they slowly added them back in.
Don't forget the 200-300 bucks for the XM hardware.Well........ probably because your typical FM dial has nothing but crap
on it and commercials that consist of local car ads repeating every 10
minutes .
I dont have XM yet but have talked to people who do & if at least some
of the music is good and commercial free i`m in its only 10$ a month i
guess .. just pay the 120$ and listen for 1 year .

Not true! Starting Feb 1, 2004, all music channels will be 100%
commercial free. Thats something like 70 channels, and starting March 1,
2004, they are adding instant traffic update channels for select
markets. 1 million people already have and enjoy XM satellite
radio....you should too!

Not "old school geezer" just that we know a scam when it comes along.
For my listening preference I never even liked radio, having someone

I didn't waste any money, I don't subscribe, I know people who do and are
pleased with the service though. If they enjoy it and think it's worth the
money they can get it and I won't complain. I personally "waste" my money on
CD's, but I enjoy listening and don't have a shortage of money so why not?
Why would anyone care what someone else spends their money on?

It's still not my problem, I don't buy cheap crap, I tell other people notBecause overall spening by the consumer market determines market
strategies and goods/services for ALL consumers. i.e. if the retail
market is stupid and wasteful in their spending habits then those in
marketing will tailor their tactics to maximize exploitation of that
market, hence making ALL consumers suffer including those who exercise
common sense and forethought.
If one doesn't take any interest in the management of their society
they shouldn't be there, after all this is a self governed, self
regulated society.(at least in theory.)
All that is required for evil to prevail is for enough good men to do
absolutely nothing.
How do you think the electronic goods market is in such a sorry state
today? Why every electronic appliance is such crap?
Because apathetic consumers but a product and when it dies right away
just shrug their shoulders, say "oh well" and toss it. Then go back
and buy another.
Or when they suscribe to a service, let's say cable televison, and
when the providers crap it up by running the same four shows
repeatedly all day long and flood it with infomercials people like you
just wimp out and do nothing.
When the appropriate response is to kick a 2X4 up their ass and cancel
their service.(I do, having not paid for a minute of cable service for
years.)
Ditto for faulty products, I always make the manufacturer honor their
warranties.(I'm sure my name is high up on some sht list somewhere,
but SO WHAT, last time I checked they're here to SERVE the consumer.
Not vise-versa.)
