TV clicks on and then there is another click, but no action. This has
been a on going problem. We use to beable to start the TV with a wait
of about 30 seconds between clicks. We unplugged the TV for 24 hours
and still no action.
Can you help?? This TV is a piece of furniture, unlike the TV's of
today. I would hate to despose of it.
Thanks, Jeff

The power supply is most likely going in to protection mode. You would have
to look for any shorted components or a circuit that is pulling too much
current. There is also the possibility that many of the capacitors in your
set are going high in ESR from aging.

The best way to approach this to verify the performance of the supply
section itself, and then verify the presence of scan drives to start with.
You may need to invest in the service manual for the set, and be able to
obtain the proper test equipment to service the set. The techs who are
servicing these also go through a lot of training for this type of work.

The proper suggestion would be to find out who the authorized service rep is
for your set, and have a proper estimate done for you. You can then make an
intelligent decision to service the set or not. There are also many safety
issues when servicing your own set.

Considering the age of this set, there are many parts that may no longer be
available. Also, it is possible that the tubes are probably weak from age
and use.

In today's technology, the sets are superior. Also, a consideration must be
made that today's sets are all going digital, and HDTV is just around the
corner to be the new industry standard.
