Cheapest idea would probably be one of the many FM transmitter kits available
and a discount store FM radio at the PA end. There are a lot of different
FM transmitter kits out there. Jaycar sell one, Oatley Electronics have
another one, and Wiltronics. Some are designed to take input directly
from a microphone rather than an audio imput, the audio input ones probably
do better quality audio.

Another option (and potentially cheaper/free if you have a lot of computer
junk like me) would be to use an old PC and a couple of WiFi cards. Set
up a local connection (Ad-Hoc Network) between the computer at the mic
end and the old one at the PA end, then use software to stream the audio
between them. Any PC/laptop post mid-90s should do the streaming OK, as
long as you don't choose something stupid in the settings. One of the
Raspberry Pi computers would also do the job, or a hacked router with
a USB sound card running OpenWrt, and I believe there are instructions
online detailing how to set either up to do the job (although they might
be a bit rough).

And there are audio receivers on Ebay for Bluetooth:

Some seem to say they can transmit the audio too, though of course the
PC with a bluetooth adapter could do that too.

ACTUALLY, scrap my initial sentence, these Ebay adapters would probably
be the cheapest option if they do what they say they do.

Hmmmm, 2.4gHZ does the pub have microwave ovens nearbye ?

This FM TX module works well, cost is US$6 or so, has an onboard mic
plus a line in socket and a USB port. I've got one that I run off a
single LiIon cell.
