Why would free newserver aioe be on s.e.r "441 banlist" but

I use two Italian free newservers & noticed this strange happenstance:

1. aioe can NOT post to sci.electronics.repair
2. albasani CAN post to sci.electronics.repair

That is, when I post with aioe as my free news server, I get, in PAN,
the error "441 Banlist" when I try to submit the post (see screen shot):

However, if I change nothing but the free newsserver, I 'can' post
to sci.electronics.repair (witness this post):

I have this problem with no other newsgroup (to my knowledge).

Do you have any debugging tools for me to figure out why this happens?

Aioe's admin sets up the ban rules using Cleanfeed. If he gets
complaints for just about anything, such as spamming, excessive
cross-posting, off-topic, trolling he puts a group on his stupid
banlist and punishes all the legitimate users because of a couple
of bad boys.

It's the mentality some teachers use for second-graders. If a
miscreant won't come forward or stop his bad behavior the
entire second-grade class is punished.

Obliged? C'mon, get real. Why is the aioe admin insulting those
folks who are able to use the filters and/or kill files their clients
provide? Why does he assume everybody is helpless and can't
function without a nanny Usenet?

It's probably not anything that you are doing.

If I recall properly, the sci.electronics.repair newsgroup is one
which has had a problem of abusive postings (trolling, personal
attacks, etc.) by a number of individuals over the past few years.
Some of these abuses took place through the aioe news-server. When
people complained to aioe about the abuses, aioe's reaction was to
block the abuse by blocking most or all posting to this newsgroup.

This sort of problem is common to many free services... since they're
open to all (with little or no pre-registration or confirmation of the
user's identity) they're prone to being abused. And, as they're free,
the operators don't have a steady revenue stream to pay an employee to
monitor for abuse and shut down individual abusers... all they can do
is block the entire abused region (e.g. newsgroup).

I don't know whether aioe blocked posting to this newsgroup from *all*
of the Internet, or only from certain IP address ranges which were
commonly used (or misused) by abusive posters. Nor do I know if it's
possible to gain an "exemption" from the ban, by registering with aioe
and confirming your identity and getting a password-protected account.

Their service is free, and you're guaranteed to get just as much as
you're paying for :)

I just now sent a message to Paolo Amoroso at Aioe, asking if he
can explain things - but if it's as you said, then there's not
much I'm going to do (other than switch newsservers).

I do understand that free means he can't spend a lot of time on
things. I just wish I know what was going on, that's all.

AIOE is meant as a 'last resort' NSP, allowing anyone who can get an
internet connection (and suitable software) to post to usenet - without
having to register in advance, or at all, or make any payment, or any form
of 'identification'. This might be a valuable service for someone living
under an oppressive regime, for example. Sadly, people abuse it, and the
provider has to try to minimise the abuse that gets posted (so as to
protect his news-server from a usenet death penalty, which would render it
useless) without silencing any of the very people the service is trying to
help.

If you have no reason to fear being traceable through account registration
records, then you have no /need/ to use AIOE at all; there are other
free-of-charge NSPs with whom you could register. If you abuse their
services, they can cancel your account - which AIOE can't do, as there are
no accounts.

If you can afford it, help to keep usenet going by paying for your use of
it. Text-only access needn't be expensive, or of course you can send
whatever you can afford to one or more of the free servers.

That's exactly how I got around the banlist in order to
test what was going on.

Albasani requires a registration, but its post worked.
Aioe doesn't require a registration, and its post failed.

You will find AIOE.org has extensive "ban lists" across
many a newsgroup and indeed further filtering within
whole groups. Like, try using "Derbyshire" and/or
"Paul Derbyshire" in a Body or Subject of a post directed at
a.f.newsservers.
As per the above known troll s.e.repair was subjected to
major troll/flame crusades back around 2003/4 and is - as
best as I recall - the very first newsgroup Paolo initiated
his Cleanfeed changes on.
You will find all servers have variations on filtering.
Albasani for instance requires a "followup-to" to be set
on cross posts.
Others limit cross posting and some do not allow
X-Header injections.
All of it is a discovery tour, enjoy... without being an ass.

So you really believe that? Then I supposes when somebody
drives drunk the wrong way down a freeway and has a head-on
collision that kills other motorists you then say, "His car; his rules?"

The Usenet network may be compared to a freeway and aioe
may be compared to the automobile.

Get a clue. These free NSPs are rogues who do whatever the
hell they want to do on the freeway. The wrecks they cause don't
seem to bother them one iota.
