why 0.35um instead of 0.6um???

Dear all,

I am designing a delta sigma modulator with fs = 40MHz by 0.35um
technology.

My friend challenge me that 0.6um is capable for my frequeny range, why i
need to spend more money on 0.35um technology.

Could anyone tell me how to answer his question?

Thank you very much!

Yours,
George

George,

Depending if the design is pad-limitted or core-limitted, you can
gain or lose area.
Generally for very small designs the use of deep submicron process
makes more expensive the fabrication.
If the design is large and/or core-limitted, the use of a smaller
feature makes benefits on area, performance, speed, and cost.
You have to consider also other criteria, like power consumption
reduction, noise figures, etc ...

On another hand, 0.6um process is quite old and the fabrication
source maybe a problem, compared to the wide offer and use of a 0.35um.
