Go to a library. There are books listing virtually any product or service
you might want. I forget the name, but I think they're blue.

they're probably custom designs,manufacturer-specific.

I did Google, and received about what you did but that does not begin to answer
the question.

Call On Semiconductor's Marketing department, and ask them. They're in
that market; they should be in a position to know.

Do you have 600 Euros? You can download a hearing aid market report
from these folks:

http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/b7ed9a/global_hearing_aid

It lists the major players in the hearing aid industry. You could call
them, and ask where they source their ICs, how many they buy per year,
etc.

Realize that sci.electronics.repair is not
hearingaid.components.market.research

True. Is largest by number of units sold, gross sales, or floor space
in square meters? Presumably, you need this information for some sort
of electronics repair.

I used to do this kind of research in other industries. If someone
else hadn't done the necessary research and made it available, it
would take me 2-3 days to find all the numbers for one product area. I
couldn't find anything showing hearing aid sales, but may have missed
something in the Google clutter.

I suggest you start with a list of manufacturers:
<http://www.hearingaidknow.com/2008/07/16/hearing-aid-manufacturers/>
Their sales should be available on their web site, stock summary, or
SEC filings. There's no standard for how they report their sales, so
some analysis and creativity will be necessary.

Once you've identified the "largest" manufacturer, the chips used can
possibly be found on the FCC type certification pages. Often the
major manufacturers of low voltage hearing aid chips will disclose
their major customers. Except for the largest vendors, I don't expect
this information to be publicly available.

Good luck.

I would suspect that the largest companies would design their own
chips, to maintain a competitive advantage. These would be fabbed and
tested by one of the various foundries.
