White LEDs - what am I missing?

Just thinking about LED illumination, like lamps, flashlights, whatnot.

So I go take a quick look at ebay, and good grief! They're practically
_giving_ the things away?

Or are these deals too good to be true?

It's not a scam, but I found the ultrabrigiht whites were pretty
expensive still. Didn't stop me buying a bunch, though!
