Poor sod. They sucked. But they did work well enough that the elusive 1583
version became possible. Not sure why he made them then, and I'm not sure
exactly what he made them from (given the nature of his workshop, people
tended not to enquire deeply, but I reckon there was something about the way
they fed the pigs). Brown was a stickler for organic perfection in his hybrid
designs in those days.
