Where to buy large seven segment displays 12cm+

Where is the best place to buy large seven segment displays ?

Some where that keeps them in stock.

Preferably 4 digit clock display or 2 digit.
12cm high or larger.

Also who carries ftdi usb to rs232 in quantity ?

Appears they have stopped making the SA50's no longer listed on any of the kingbright web pages.
Hopefully can still get 6 or 12 of them.

Whoever it was on the phone yesterday afternoon must have been having a really bad day.

Wish they would fix their website
so it works rather than give errors.

Don's a bit pricey even with his discount for quantities.

After around 100 at the moment
Trying to get cheaper than Aus$5.00 a chip

Yeah, I get that info as well, even using Netscape 7.1. The website appears
orientated towards Microsoft's Internet Exploder. Their designer appears to
be unaware that not all browsers are created equal. I use Smart Explorer when
I want to view pages geared towards u$oft's IE.

Getting back to your original query, you could assemble a large display using
a large number of individual rectangular LEDs, or even LEDs mounted in plastic
similar to Jaycar's LED bar graph display (ZD-1702). It certainly would be
cheaper, however it would also give you the option of selecting high brightness
LEDs.

basically a front end for ie that allows tabbed browsing.

Thought of using individual leds. Maybe for another display but for this one ,
avoiding having to do circuit boards.
Using one of the futurlec control boards and soldering some connectors
on to the prototype area.


The matrix led modules would be easier than using individual leds.

Its for a largish clock display, 6 digit.
This time I'm just going to go with
some of the kingbright SA50's or similar.

Once I've finished this one, may do a board using surface mount leds for
clock display / message board.


Found out that for the world cup, Foxtel(one of their contractors) bought the onscreen display game timers
from overseas because they claimed they couldn't find anyone in Australia capable of making them.

Not sure if best is meaning "cheapest", however Farnell have some 196mm
high 7 seg modules (#366-5331). They are made by a company called Forge
Europa
(www.forge-europa.co.uk)

They can be clipped together to form a larger unit.

They are about $100AU



I am looking at using about 12 of them in a couple of projects so would
be very interested in a cheaper/similar source.
