whats up with my fridge?

after a hot day, my refridgerator makes a unusual buzzing noise. it
happens randomly throughout the day mostly only once, but sometimes twice.
the fridge somehow gets affected by the heat and the only way to stop the
noise is to turn the power off, wait a few sec's then turn it back on. it
never happens during the other cooler seasons.

the fridge is over 20 yrs old, but still works fine apart from this
annoying effect. anyone know what might be the problem?

Dedicated fridge or fridge freezer?

Auto defrost, frost free, or a combination of both?

Is noise associated with refrigeration cycle, or the defrost cycle?

What's its duty cycle around the time the problem occurs -- the duty
cycle is the % of total time for which the compressor runs?

There's plenty of other relevant questions -- some of which we might
know the answer to if only you'd tell us the make and model.

Extracting teeth must be far easier than obtaining accurate fault
descriptions for consumer appliance problems. I'm glad I don't depend
on either for a living. ;-)

perhaps another question which might help would be" when it starts
buzzing, and you pick up the refrigerator and shake it a little or
wobble it where it stands, does the noise stop? " if it does, maybe
there is just something whih has fallen behind the fridge and is
touching the compressor. mayb eits even just a loose screw...

nope. tried that. the only thing that stops it is turning the power off.

varies

My new fridge made an intermittent loud buzzing sound when I first
installed it, only when the compressor was running. Sounded for all
the world like an intermittent compressor problem, but it turned out
to be the plastic flip up lid on the top shelf of the door vibrating
in time with the compressor! The intermittent nature seemed to be due
to the loading on the door and the compartment.

buzzing noises in whitegoods are usually associated with the devil

i suggest an immediate emergency exorcism be done on your kitchen

a buzzing fridge means that the demon amongst us have found refuge in the
place most likely to be overlooked by godfearing humans (to wit the coldest
place in the house) ...

if you can't get a priest to come to your house (this is a difficult thing
these days since most are in police custody due to child-sex-abuse charges)
then your second best thing is your local publican who is more than used to
expelling nasty noise-making vermin from his property ....

he will, no doubt, begin thus:
devil interloper of bridge,
remove yourself from within this fridge,
you may think you're safe in there,
but think again because i've got hair,
it may be cold.
it may be old,
but believe me now because i'm told
that kelvinator stocks been sold
to some jap group with lots of gold
oh devil devil i know you're sad
but the capitalists here on earth are glad
'cause it's hard to know what's right from wrong
especially if your head is long

so begone now you devlish foe
it's terribly sad to see you go
your noisy prostestations were
the best excuse to abandon her
amidst the plaintive pleadings of
her amorous yearnings once a month
my mother warned me years ago
i wish i'd listened, this i know

tis harder to maintain a level
of unresponse to sex. the devil
than it is to follow my palsied eyes to
heaving breasts and sweaty thighs
than it is to rent out low rate porn
showing succubi and roasted corn

upon my word i've had my fill
of long windedness and words of swill
perhaps it's time to say goodnight
and wish myself a horny night
