You know how you type away at something, but your PC hasn't responded, and
your keystrokes have been lost?
Well they haven't really.
That 'dust' is thousands of dead keystrokes.

** IME it can be one or more of the following:
1. Residue of cigarette smoke collected by the EHT wiring.
2. Photocopier toner dust similarly collected - if a copier is
nearby.
3. House dust collected and carbonised by the huge voltage gradients
around the EHT wiring.
Horrible stuff in all cases.

You get it even with no smokers around at all.Jackie <noreply@bigpond.com> wrote

Ditto.2. Photocopier toner dust similarly collected - if a copier is nearby.
Its too fine for that.3. House dust collected and carbonised by
the huge voltage gradients around the EHT wiring.
Wont do you any harm.Horrible stuff in all cases.
You dont see the same very fine black soot like stuffalso seen on the casing around the ends of fluro tubes,
and anywere that heat is generated consistantly (cd players,
printers, VCR's (not nesesseraly around the power supply) .
Nope, you dont see it with say a fan heater.i think its carbon from heating crap in the air,
Its basically the result of the arcing thats inevitable in a monitorbut i'm not sure.

Its actually the result of arcing, and much worse when the FBT is dying.
Horrible stuff in all cases.
Wont do you any harm.
Its that final resting place for all those bits and bytes you consign to
the
recycle bin.
I thought it was all the left-over half-cycles from half-wave rectifiers.

You dont get it with non fan heaters either.a fan heater is pushing air, i.e. the air is not static.
