What's Happened to Verilog?

We're running IC446 and have some users now wanting to run the Verilog
simulator.

Trouble is, that the IC443 had a directory structure under
CDSROOT/tools/verilog

The IC446 has eliminated that directory and resultant executables.

Any help here?

Verilog is in another release, called LDVx.x

From cdsdoc:

Starting with 4.4.5 release, Digitial Logic Design and Verification
(LDV) tools such as Verilog-XL now ship on a separate CD from the
analog/mixed-signal custom integrated circuit (CIC) tools. This means
that you need to maintain two installation hierarchies, one for CIC
tools and another for LDV tools.. blaahblaahblaah

Great...I have that...Do you know if it is licensed separately or bundled
with my previous 443/446 codes? The old 443 runs as I am licensed now.

From 4.4.5 onwards you need to have the following license:
21400 Virtuoso(R) schematic composer Verilog(R) interface

1. I don't remember exactly when it happened, but there was a big
initiative called the 'STREAMS INITIATIVE" at Cadence a few years
back where Scott Baeder & Pete Connor and others focused on getting
multiple streams to work better together.

2. One (just one) of the issues was the previous use of the same
executable in multiple releases, which, sometimes, if they got out
of sync, would give you two streams which wouldn't work together.

3. I'm not saying all streams play nice with each other all the time
nowadays, but, one of the results of that long-term iniative was to
remove duplicate executables from multiple streams (where possible)
in order to lessen the chance that one would get out of sync with
the other at a Customer site.

Offhand, that is likely the reason your 'verilog' executable is now only
found in the LDV (aka Incisive) stream and not the other.

Believe it or not, this should be a good thing, for you, the Customer,
that the streams don't have conflicting executables, by design.

John...Thanks...It wasn't long after I posted the message that I realized
where it all was
located...After several personnel moves and responsibility changes, I
re-entered the CADENCE
realm and needed re-training. LOL

Are you the same John G from the old RCA/HARRIS days I remember?

1. Yup. You're dating me. In public. It's embarrassing. :)

2. Good 'ole RCA/HARRIS. With RCA, only the name remains. Sigh.

3. Remember John Ahearn. Joe Mastroianni. Mike Gianfangna. etc.
All of whom then worked for RCA or Cadence at one time or another,
and whom I stay in touch with. My best Customers are the OLD ones!
I'd still like to say hi to Vicki Z. if you ever see her.

Good luck
JOHN GIANNI
