What kind of fuse is this???

At least I think it is a fuse... it looks exactly like a fuse but instead of a glass tube it is a white solid material. I am afraid to break it open because it might have something toxic inside. I don't need it. Is it safe to discard in the trashbin?

It's probably a fuse, does it have anything written on it?

Toxic stuff to watch out for includes Beryllium(?) based heatsink paste
and rechargable batteries with cadmium, or lead in them.

the toxic heatsink paste was discontinued over 10 yeas ago.

Also solder often contains lead (wash your hands after working with it)
and batteries containing lithium can be dangerous too.

Intact picture tubes can give a nasty electric shock, and burst into
razor-sharp fragments if dropped.

Not if it has lead in it.

Call your local department of hazardous materials disposal and
arrange to have them pick it up and dispose of it properly.
