What is this component?

I a trying to fix a 3M digital projector that has no power. I opened
up the unit and looked over the power board for any issues; and I
think i found something.

On the back of the circuit board I see some blackened area (sorry I
don't know all the terminology) and it looks like two identical
components on the other side. I am guessing that this is my problem,
since I cannot see any fuse or other damage.

Here's a picture of what I am trying to identify:

Does anyone know what this component might be, and better yet, where I
can find a replacement?

Thanks for any help, I haven't done anything like this since high
school electronics class.

Those are CUSTOM ceramic monolithic integrated circuits. ONLY available
from the manufacture of the unit. 3M will not sell you the component parts
you need to repair it. They might sell you a complete power supply assembly
if you can convince them you are a trained and qualified servicer. Thw last
3M power supply we managed to buy was just under $400, and it was quite the
hassle to even get them to sell it to us. Your other option is to ship it
into the 3M factory repair depot.

This is such a bummer. Is there any possible workaround for something
like this? It's old enough that it's not really worth it to send it
in. It was a nice projector in it's day

You could look on ebay for a parts unit with something else wrong with it,
or find some other sort of ballast.

Yeah, I'm sure that it's much easier to get parts for the trash churned
out from Chink land, you mouth-breathing moron.

Now, don't you have some siblings or some livestock that you should be
making mutant babies with, you fucking chromosome-shy-of-an-ape
hillbilly?

What does that have to do with it? Can you even buy anything consumer
electronic that *is* american these days? At least the stuff made in Japan
is occasionally decent, haven't seen much good stuff out of China or any of
those other places, the problem though is that cheap stuff sells, and
particularly in this country, you can't make quality stuff, pay properly
trained workers, and still compete in the market, we're kinda screwed.

bite me.
